A. Clip one article in your field of study and do the following: (10 points)

slowly-killing-your-business/431819

- identify the parts of a problem-solution text

In the article that I’ve read, the topic focuses on the problem of numerous ideas being

processed by a company. The article stated that not every idea needs to be executed. A

company must filter out ideas, choosing what will be better for the company and focusing

on it rather than focusing on numerous things. This will make work more efficient and

not time-consuming since goals will be easily done when the attention of the employees

won’t be divided. The article gave a step-by-step process for handling this problem and

making ends meet.

- determine whether the active or passive voice is used

Active voice was used in this article since the author gives instructions that the subject

should perform the actions.

- determine whether it is written in present tense

The article is used in the present tense because the article isn’t giving results, but a

process on how to get results. The article also gives

- determine how the flow of information is maintained

The flow of information is maintained by starting with a realization then stating the

problem, and lastly giving a solution. The author enlightened me by capturing my

attention and giving a systematic approach to writing the article.

- identify the time adverbials, mid-position adverbs, sentence connectors indicating

causes and effects, –ing clauses of result, or indirect questions.

 Time adverbials: Just, now, never, sometimes, then

 Mid-position adverbs: Even, not, clearly, then, frantically, actually, also,

effectively, why, here, even, ultimately, where, how, never,

 Sentence connectors indicating causes and effects: For, because, as, due to,

because of.

 -ing clauses of result: NONE

 Indirect questions: “Does it create the world we're here to build?”, “Does this

action fulfill our purpose?”

B. Writing Task (10 points)

Write your own problem-solution text that includes both a process description and a

definition, or write a review of the current state of knowledge in your field, raising a

question about the current state of knowledge and offering a possible answer.

Our community deals with a variety of concerns and challenges, but in my opinion, it is better to

start with those that are straightforward yet have a significant impact on our health. If everyone

in our community takes part, this straightforward problem will only call for straightforward

remedies that are simple for us to eradicate. With thousands of businesses, many cars, and a large

population, Lucena City is a heavily urbanized city. But having this kind of status will result in

many issues, especially with pollution. In essence, pollution has an impact on how well people

live. Almost everything is degraded, including the air we breathe and the water we drink. Natural

resources that are necessary for a healthy life are affected.

Although Lucena City has grown positively, our government has been too preoccupied

with the large picture to pay attention to the smaller details. Our government overlooked the

pollution that is there in front of us. When we leave our houses, pollution has already made an

impact. The key issues that need to be addressed by our government are pollution of the water,

air, and land. I'm not saying it's their fault alone; it's also our fault. We should acknowledge that

we are to blame for the issues in our community before we place the blame on the government.

We need to know where to dispose of our waste in order to be good citizens. Why not try

walking or riding a bicycle instead of using a vehicle all the time? This will tremendously help to
reduce our air pollution. Why not pick up a tiny bit of the trash that is laying around when

heading to the beach? Small details are crucial. When we have completed those simple tasks, we

turn to our government for larger undertakings. The only thing our folks must do is collaborate

so that our government can plan events to clean up our neighborhood. Floods are being caused

by clogged sewers, and if this issue is not resolved, it will undoubtedly grow to be much worse

for our neighborhood. Here in Lucena City, the drainage system is both inadequate and clogged,

which reduces its effectiveness. Drainages can be added by our government, and clogged ones

should be cleaned up by individuals. This will lessen the likelihood of flooding. The everyday

usage of automobiles should be reduced, in my opinion, just as our tricycle drivers have days

when they are unable to travel. Since there won't be as many automobiles on the road every day,

this will help reduce pollution while avoiding traffic. Because people tend to break simple norms

when no one is available to correct them, there should be a government-appointed caretaker

assigned to our beaches and rivers to ensure their protection. This applies not only to these areas

but also to our community as a whole. Signs alone, in my opinion, won't suffice; what our city

really needs is human resources, which will also increase work prospects for the people of

Lucena. We can also plant trees to reduce air pollution and protect ourselves from flooding. To

eliminate pollution, each of us needs to take action. People should carefully breakdown their

garbage. Additionally, everyone should recycle what they can to contribute to a greener

community.
