Context and Rationale
School year 2020-2021 marked the start of the alternative learning delivery due
to the threat brought by the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The Department of
Education has implemented the alternative learning delivery to make sure that education
must go on. Schools may use different learning modalities according to their BELCP,
may it be modular learning, television-based learning, radio-based learning, or blended
learning. The assessment and grading system were also modified where learners are
graded according to the written and performance tasks.
Based on the class records of the teachers, on the first quarter of school year
2021-2022, 23 out of 84 (27%) were not able to complete their performance tasks in
Mathematics, 18 out of 84 (21%) were not able to complete their performance tasks in
Araling Panlipunan, and 20 out of 84 (24%) were not able to complete their performance
tasks in Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan.
As expected to the learners in the modular learning, they should be prompt in
returning and retrieving their modules as well as in submitting their written and
performance tasks. Learners are also expected to answer and perform their
performance tasks as scheduled for every quarter.
Since the written and performance are the bases for pupils grades, it is very
essential that they will be able to comply all the needed requirements in order to have a
very satisfactory grades or higher. Not complying those requirements make result to fair
or even poor academic performance of our pupils. This is an alarming problem that
needs immediate attention by the teacher, thus this study.
Action Research Questions
This action research will examine the effectiveness of Pupils Incentive Program
as a strategy to improve the output compliance among Grade V pupils of Belison Central
School enrolled during the School Year 2021-2022.
Specifically, this study will seek answers to the following questions:
1. What is the status of output compliance of the Grade V pupils before the
intervention?
2. What is the status of output compliance of the Grade V pupils after the
intervention?
3. Is there a significant difference in the status of output compliance of the
Grade V pupils before and after the intervention?
4. What actions should be undertaken to improve the numeracy skills among
Grade V pupils?
Proposed Innovation, Intervention and Strategy
Using Pupils Incentive Program to improve the output compliance of the pupils,
the following procedures should be followed:
1. The teacher will monitor the compliance of the pupils using the output chart
that will be posted outside the distribution and retrieval area;
2. The teacher will inform all the pupils weekly of the written and performance
output that they are going to submit;
3. The teacher will give a week allowance for the pupils to comply all their
outputs in a certain quarter; and
4. The pupils that will be able to comply all their requirements in a quarter will be
given incentives by the teacher during the end of each quarter.
Action Research Methods
This study will make use of descriptive method of research to find the
effectiveness of Pupil Incentive Program as a strategy to improve the output compliance
of Grade V pupils.
Participants and/or Other Sources of Data and Information
The target participants of the study will be 80 Grade V pupils of Belison Central
School who are officially enrolled during the school year 2021-2022.
Data Gathering Methods
To gather the needed data, the researcher will utilize the weekly checklist of
output chart and class records.
Ethical Issues
Prior to administration of the instrument, permission to conduct the study will be
obtained from the Office of School Principal and Class Advisers of Grade V pupils.
Likewise, prior consent from the parents of Grade V pupils will be secured before the
participants will be permitted to participate in the study. All data gathered in this study
will be treated with utmost confidentiality and anonymity.
Data Analysis Plan
The data gathered in this study will be analyzed and interpreted using frequency
and percentage as descriptive statistical tools and t-test will be used as inferential
statistical tool. All computations will be done using Microsoft Excel 2016 with 0.05 level
of significance.
