Computer Networking Notes

This document contains summaries of key topics in data communication and computer networks: 1. It defines data communication and lists its four fundamental characteristics as delivery, accuracy, timeliness, and jitter. 2. It describes three main types of data communication: simplex, half duplex, and full duplex. 3. DATA COMMUNICATIONS

--------------------------------------
Que. What is data communication? What are the four fundamental characteristics of
data communication?
ans:-data communication defination then efffectiveness of data communication i.e
delivery,accuracy,timeliness,jitter
given in pdf cse306 unit1 all quesn
ALL THE QUESN GIVEN IN THIS PDF

IMPORTANT TOPIC

______________________

Que. Explain various types of Data Representation techniques.

ans:-Information today comes in different forms such as text, numbers, images,
audio, and video.
these r fully explained in cse306 unit 1 all quesn pdf.

-----

quesn:-Explain different components of data communication with neat block diagram.

ans:-The five components are :
1:-Message
2:-Sender
3:-Receiver
4:- Transmission Medium
5:- Protocol:-For example, Sonali sends a message to Chetan. If Sonali writes in
Hindi and Chetan cannot understand Hindi, it is a meaningless conversation.

Type
of data communication

____________________________
As we know that data communication is communication in which we can send or receive
data from one device to another. The data communication is divided into three
types:
1:-Simplex Communication
2:-Half Duplex communication
3:-Full-duplex communication

NETWORKS

______________
A network is a set of devices (often referred to as nodes)
connected by communication links. A node can be a
computer, printer, or any other device capable of
sending and/or receiving data generated by other nodes
on the network.....................(also detail in ppt class lecture 2).

A link can be a cable, air, optical fiber, or any medium

which can transport a signal carrying information.

Criteria for a
Data Communication Network

_______________________________________________
1:- Performance:-however also depends on a number of factors such as ----

#Number of Users: More users on a network - slower the network will run
#Transmission Speed: speed that data will be transmitted measured in bits per
second (bps).
#Media Type: Type of physical connection used to connect nodes together
#Hardware Type: Slow computers such as XT or fast such as Pentiums
#Software Program: How well is the network operating system (NOS) written

2:- Reliability:-

3:- Security:-

Types of
Connection in Computer Networks

________________________________________________
A Network is nothing but a connection made through connection links between two or
more devices. Devices can be a
computer, printer or any other device that is capable to send and receive data.
There are two ways to connect the devices:-
1:- Point-to-Point connection:-A point-to-point connection is a permanent direct
communication link between two parties. Unlike a dial-up connection, it does not
need to be established via dial-up or disconnected following communication.
Point-to-point connections use specific interfaces, such as G.703, X.21, Ethernet
or others, depending on the type and the medium used.

2:- Multipoint connection:-It is also called Multidrop configuration. In this

connection two or more devices share a single link.
There are two kinds of Multipoint Connections:
1:-If the links are used simultaneously between many devices, then it is spatially
shared line configuration.
2:-f user takes turns while using the link, then it is time shared (temporal) line
configuration.
(This both are expalined detail in above written pdf with figure.)

Types of
Network Topology
_____________________________

Network Topology is the schematic description of a network arrangement, connecting

various nodes(sender and receiver)
through lines of connection.

1:-BUS Topology
2:-RING Topology
3:-STAR Topology
4:-MESH Topology
5:-TREE Topology
6:-HYBRID Topology
