◆ Input power
Please supply power for the inverter according to the specifications provided in
this Manual.
◆ Air circuit breaker
(1) Cut off power supply of the inverter;
(2) Cut off power supply when short circuit occurs on power input side or
overcurrent occurs on downstream devices.
◆ AC reactor on input side
Control current surge due to grid voltage jump and switching overvoltage, smooth
spike pulse in supply voltage or voltage defect produced during phase change of
bridge rectifier circuit, effectively protect the inverter and improve power factor, it
can eliminate the interface from the grid and reduce the electric network pollution
caused by harmonic current produced by rectification unit.
◆ Contactor
Switch ON/OFF the inverter, do not use it to directly power on/off or start the
inverter frequently.
◆ Reactor on output side
It mainly can compensate for the impact of distributed capacitance in a long run
(20-200m), decrease earth leakage current of motor, inhibit harmonic current,
improve high-frequency impedance, effectively suppress dv/dt. It decrease high-
frequency leakage current to protect the inverter and reduce the noise.
◆ Braking resistor
Improve the braking capacity of inverter to prevent overvoltage warning.
14
S1 Series Vector Inverter

Do not install a capacitor or surge suppressor on output side, which

may cause the inverter fault or damage to the capacitor or surge
suppressor.
Input or output side of inverter has certain harmonics, which may
disturb the normal running of peripherals.
tips Please install anti-interference filter to minimize the disturbance.
The output of inverter is high-speed impulse voltage, which may
increaseleakage current in the circuit. If aresidual-current circuit
breaker is installed on input side of inverter, the induced current
of residual-current circuit breaker should be more than 100mA,
otherwise high-frequency impulse interference may cause
malfunction of residual-current circuit breaker.

7.2 Warning phenomenon and countermeasures

When the inverter's parameters are within the set alarm range, it does not stop andthe
keypad sends corresponding alarm code at this time. The keypad shows alarm code which
flashes for 3s, and then switches to parameter content selected with function codeP09.01
(output frequency in default) , 3s later, it switches to alarm code, and so on(as long as the
alarm condition is not eliminated). You can select whether to display alarm information with
function code P12.22. S1 series inverter can display the alarm types as shown in Table7-2.

Appendix IBraking resistor selection

When the inverter drives the motor to reverse or decelerate to stop, energy feedback of
motor may cause the mains DC voltage of inverter to increase. To prevent the inverter
from stop due to overvoltage protection, the inverter automatically switches to dynamic
braking circuit before the mains DC voltage reaches to the protection voltage and releases
redundant energy in the form of heat energy through braking resistor, thus control the
continuous increase of voltage and ensure the normal operation of inverter.
① Resistance selection of braking resistor
During braking, almost all recovered energy from motor is consumed by braking
resistor. According to the formula:U×U/R=Pb

U — Braking resistance during stable braking(it varies with system voltage value,
380VAC
System voltage value generally takes 700V)
Pb — braking power

② Power selection of braking resistor

Theoretically, the power of braking resistor is as same as that of braking power while
the power of braking resistor is generally de-rated in fact.
According to the formula: λ×Pr=Pb×ED%

λ— derating factor, generally taking70% Pr — power of braking resistor

ED% — usage rate(the ratio of energy recovering process to the whole working
process) , generally taking 10%.

Please refer to the table below:

Appendix II MODBUS protocol

1.Wiring of communication interface
S1 series inverter provides users with RS485 serial communication interface: 485
protocol communication terminal A(RS485 + ) , B(RS485 - ), which can be used
simultaneously. Control system single host/ singe slave or single host /multi slave
can be configured while the inverter can only be used as a slave.
As shown in the figure below

Wiring diagram of communication interface

2.Communication mode
◆ S1 series inverter uses Modbus protocol andRTU message transmission mode and
support common read and writing of register command. Its frame format is as shown
in the figure below:

MODBUSData frame

start (at least 3.5 idle characters) slave address Command code data check code end (at least 3.5 idle characters)

◆ ModbusRTU uses “big-endian” code to represent address and data item(except

CRC, which belongs to “little- endian”). During transmission, low bytes follow high
bytes.
◆ InRTU mode, the frame is defined by frame header and end through the interval of at
least 3.5 byte time.

2.1 Slave address

S1 series inverter can only be used as a slave during networking. The address can
be set through function code P16.02, the set range is 1~247 and default is 1.

2.2 Command code

Modbus’s functions are mainly reading and writing parameters, operation
requirements vary with the command codes. S1 series inverter’s ModbusRTU
protocol supports the operations shown in the table below.

74
S1 Series Vector Inverter

Command code
(represented Meaning
with 16 system)
03H Read and write message from several registers
06H Change message from single register, unless the inverter is powered off
Change message from several registers, unless the inverter is powered
10H
off
Read, write and change message from several registers, unless the
17H
inverter is powered off

2. 3 D ata
S1 series inverter’s Modbus communication data is divided into three categories,
register address, register number (or byte number) and specific value of register.
Data is in 16 system format(except byte number during writing) and is represented
with two bytes, low bytes following high bytes.
MODBUS addressing
◆ Mapping relationship between parameter function code and inner
Modbus register of S1 series inverter.
S1 series inverter’s parameter function code is mapped into Modbus reading
and writing register. The rules: parameter function code×100 =M×256+N+1,
represented in decimal system, of which0≤N≤255
Register address High byte low byte
For example:
Calculate Modbus register address of parameterP04.01
4.01×100 = 1×256+144+1, and thenM = 1, N = 144, convert to 16 system and
gain high byte 01H and low byte90H, that is, register address is0190H, Modbus
register address of each parameter is shown in each group of menu table.

The decimal point in the number of function code is removed, the

resulting number is subtracted by 1 and then converted to a digital
tips in 16 system to gain register address. For example, function code
P04.01, the decimal point is removed, the result 401 is subtracted by 1
and then the result 400 is converted to 0190H in 16 system.

9
◆ Corresponding relationship between parameter function code
and standard MODBUS address
MODBUS protocol

Some upper controller only supports standard MODBUS addressing, the

relationship between parameter function code and it:
Standard MODBUS address = parameter function code ×100+40000

For example:
Corresponding MODBUS address of parameter P04.01: 4.01×100+40000=40401

75
S1 Series Vector Inverter

2 .4 Check code
CRC-16 is used for data check, content of entire message is checked, the high byte
and low byte of checksum should be sent after exchange.
Please see the following example for specific CRC check.
CRC check
CRC check is 16-bit Cyclic redundancy check, standard CRC-16 multi nominal
x16+x15+x2+1 is used. Add 16-bit CRC to a message and send LSB at first, CRC is
calculated through all bytes in the frame.

3、Communication command interpretation

3 .1 With command code03H as an example
Read successive register arrays to read content of 10 parameters from P14.1 to
P14.10 of inverter 1, as shown in the table below.
● Initial function01 is numbered as 1401 and then converted into 0578H in the same
way above;
● Successively read 10 function codes, the register number is 10, which is
converted into 000AH in 16 system;
● CRC checksum is calculated as above: 45H, 18H
