ICT 10 Animation Q3 Week 2

This document is a learning activity sheet for a class on animation. It discusses key concepts in animation including key drawings, breakdowns, and in-betweens. Key drawings show the beginning and end of an action. Breakdowns and in-betweens fill in the movement between key drawings. The activity sheet provides examples of animating a bouncing ball and walking to demonstrate these concepts. Students are asked to practice creating in-betweens for given key drawings. The goal is to help students understand and apply animation techniques.

LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET
ICT 10 Animation: Quarter 3, Week 2

Key Drawing, In-between, and Animation breakdown

I. Introduction
Animator’s keys or key drawings are rough key poses and expressions produced by the
Animator while working over the layout given to the clean-up artist to animate and
After visualizing their assigned sequence from the storyboard.

II. Learning Competency

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs,
namely: Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and
Character while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

III. Objectives
After going through these Learning Activity Sheets, you are expected to:

A. Identify key drawing, in-between, and animation breakdown;

B.Give importance on how each part of an animation can help us in
creating smooth animation;
C.Apply the skills learned by putting in-betweens on keyframes to
create simple animation.

PRETEST

Fill in the Blanks.

Fill in the blanks to complete statement. Write your answer on the space
provided.

1. can be found the beginning and end of the action.

2. A key or also called an is a key moment in an animated
sequence, where the motion is at its extreme.
3. A comes between keys to help the keyframe animator
describe the action to in-between animators
4. In animation, key drawings are used to give the idea of .
5. While keyframes are drawn by skilled animators, are
drawn by less experienced animators.

RECAP

True or False: Write T if the statement is true, and F if not. Write your answer
on the space provided.

1. The Turn Around Model Sheet sets the template for your character.
2. General Fine Line gives us a sense of how to draw the character
from any angle, along with poses of some facial expressions,
attitude and action.
3. The Final Line shows the gestures and behaviors that best
represent the personality of the character.
4. Both volume and form for even the most "cartoon" of characters
can be seen by the animators in Rough Model Sheet.
5. The Rough Dialog Model Sheet shows various mouth shapes
that are created when the character is speaking.

IV. Discussion
Key Drawing is the drawing which can be found at the beginning and
ending of an action. They are essential in storyboarding which
quickly gives the idea of the action. The animator would usually
receive the storyboard with the key drawings as their guide in
creating the animation. Most of the time key
drawings are referred to as key frames because it is measured by
frames on the screen. The drawings between the key drawings are
called in-betweens.

According to https://www.utdallas.edu/, A key (also called "extreme")

is a key moment in an animated sequence, where the motion is at its
fullest. The number of keys in an animation depends on how
complicated the movement would be. The first, seventh, and
thirteenth frames in the example on the below are keys. A keyframe is
a drawing that corresponds to a key action. A breakdown is used to
help the keyframe animator describe the
action to in-between animators, and is usually seen between keys. In-
betweens fill these gaps between keyframes. While keyframes are
drawn by experienced animators, in-betweens are drawn by less
expert animators.

3
Let us have another example, the main drawings or extreme positions
are called extremes and the drawings in between the extremes are
called in- betweens.

In the next image, describing the movement of a pendulum, is

clear how important is the middle position of his animation:

In the 1930's this position began to be named as breakdown or passing

position.

4
The drawings that shows what's happening on the story
are the key drawings.

5
Let us have another simple animation taken from a short
animation "Crossing with Style" created by Tyrone Gepte.

Activity No. 1: In-between for a Bouncing Ball. Draw/create an in-between for a
bouncing ball, put at least 3 in-betweens per keyframe. (Use separate sheet).

put at least 3 in-betweens. (Use separate sheet).

VII. Assessment
POSTTEST
True of False: Write T if the statement is True, and F if not true. Write your
answer on the space provided.
1. A breakdown in animation is also known as passing position.
2. A key is also called in-between in animation.
3. Extremes can be seen at the middle of the animation.
4. A keyframe is a drawing that corresponds to a key moment.
5. Key Drawings are used in animation to quickly give the idea of
action.
