Advisory Board
The idea of publishing high-level scientific manuscripts in a more informal way began in
1964 with Lecture Notes in Mathematics. In the meantime, more than 875 volumes of this
series have appeared along with several other Lecture Notes series of different subjects,
proving the outstanding acceptance of this type of publication by the scientific community.
The term "Lecture Notes" can now be regarded as a Springer trademark.
The advantage of this informal, yet top-level publication is its short production time and
comparatively low price. Authors are also free to publish their material in any other context
after the appearance of a Lecture Notes volume. In addition, authors receive 75 complimen-
tary copies of their contribution which they can disseminate to interested colleagues.
When Springer-Verlag approached us to discuss the need for a new Lecture Notes series in
CONTROL and INFORMATION SCIENCES (LNCIS) it was rather easy for us to support this
idea for two reasons. First, as already mentioned, the Lecture Notes series are regarded by
leading scientists and engineers as a high-quality publication. Second, the fields of control
and information science have become important areas of engineering and science in the
last two decades. And nowadays these fields have a high degree of influence on our
technological development.
Lecture Notes in Control and Information Sciences provide informal up to date reports in an
area characterized by rapid theoretical development in conjunction with concrete practical
applications. The topics covered include optimization, systems analysis, information and
communication (including communication networks), and control systems.
Books in the series range from theoretical and/or practically oriented research or state of
the art reports to conference proceedings.
The main goal of the publishers as well as the editors is a publication of superior stature
which is in the interest of both authors and readers. General policy therefore requires that
each volume be carefully considered before a decision about its acceptance is reached. Any
questions and/or proposals sent to one of the series editors or to Springer-Verlag are always
welcome. The success of a series like LECTURE NOTES IN CONTROL AND INFORMATION
SCIENCES depends by and large on the interest and support of the scientific and engi-
neering community. We hope that this new Lecture Notes series will interest the broad
range of professionals concerned with control and/or information sciences.
