The document discusses two perspectives on the site of the first Catholic mass in the Philippines - Butuan or Limasawa Island.
The Butuan perspective claims the first mass was held there based on the testimony of Father Francisco Colin. However, there is no solid evidence to support this claim.
The Limasawa Island perspective is backed by multiple pieces of strong evidence from primary sources like Pigafetta's memoirs from Magellan's expedition and Legazpi's expedition records, which describe the mass taking place on Limasawa Island on Easter Sunday 1521. Log books and Albo's accounts also provide geographical details that match Limasawa Island but not Butuan.

Summarize two (2) learning resources from 03 Readings: The Site
of the First Mass.
Where was the First Mass Held on the land of Philippines
There is a controversy regarding the site of the first Mass ever celebrated in the land of the Philippines, Antonio Pigefetta, an Italian chronicler of Magellan’s expedition, says that it was held at Easter Sunday, the 31st of March 1521, on an island called “Mazaua”. There are two conflicting school of thoughts about the site of the first mass in the Philippines. The first claim is that the site of the first mass took place at Butuan, Agusan del Norte and the second school of thought was widely accepted version, it was said to be held on Limasawa, Southern Leyte on an Eastern Sunday. 2. State the viewpoint/argument of each resource. Butuan With no supporting evidences, According to Father Fransisco Colin SJ. Historian Magellan first came to Butuan, then to Limasawa, and then to cebu. However, Jesuit writer Father Francisco Conves S.J. has another complaint. For him, Magellan visited Limasawa twice, Magellan’s route driven accrding to his testimony, traveled from Limasawa to Butuan, returned to Limasawa and returned to Cebu on April 7, 1521. Limasawa Limasawa tradition came after Butuan, the First Mass was held on the Island of Limasawa in Visayas on March 31. 1521. Unlike the Butuan tradition, the Limasawa tradition is backed by a lot of solid evidence, including Arbo records, evidence from Pigafetta and the Evidence from Legazpi expedition.
3. Present what evidences that each resource used to support this
viewpoint/argument. The Evidence that proves, Limasawa, in Southern Leyte is the Site of the first Mass on our country, is written on the cited memoirs of Antonio Pigaffeta who is within Ferdinand Magellan’s expedition. Evidences pointing that the first mass is held on Butuan is not just lacking, but it is also inconsistent. The Butuan tradition is then invalidated and they came up with a better tradition, The Limasawa tradition. This tradition unlike the other is supported with a number of solid proofs which includes the log book, evidences of pigafetta and the evidence from legazpi’s expedition. In albo’s account he did not mention where the first mass was held, instead he mentioned that Magellan planted the cross “upon a mountain top from which could be seen in three islands to the west and southwest.” This fits the description of geographical area of limasawa which is not applicable to Butuan because there was no island found in those directions. These are strong proofs for these people have been a part of the expedition.
