DSP FInal VP 2020

This document contains a final exam for a course on analog and digital signal processing. The exam consists of 5 questions worth 20 marks each. Question 1 involves computing the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and inverse DFT of some sequences. Question 2 involves finding the z-transform of the convolution of two sequences and determining the convolution sum. Question 3 involves finding the impulse response and step response of a relaxed digital system. Question 4 involves realizing a second order section filter in different filter structures. Question 5 involves implementing a linear time-invariant system in a signal flow graph. The document provides the questions but not the full solutions, which are written separately.

Question 1: (20 marks)

a. Compute the DFT of the sequence x(n) = {1,0,2,0}
b. Without explicitly computing the DFT sum, find the DFT of the sequence y(n) =
{0,2,0,1}, using your answer to part (a)
c. Find the inverse DFT of the sequence X(m) = {1, e-j3/4, 0, ej3/4}
d. Without explicitly computing the inverse DFT sum, find the inverse DFT of the
sequence Y(m) = {1, e-j/4, 0, ej/4}, using your answer to part(c).

Question 2: (20 marks)

Given two sequences,
x1(n) = 3(n) + 2(n-1)
x2(n) = 2(n) – (n-1)
a. Find the Z-transform of their convolution:
x1(n) = Z[x1(n)*x2(n)] where Z is the Z-operator
b. Determine the convolution sum using the z-transform:
x(n) = x1(n)*x2(n)

A relaxed (zero initial conditions) DSP system is described by the difference equation
y(n) + 0.1y(n-1) – 0.2y(n-2) = x(n) + x(n-1)
a. Determine the impulse response y(n) due to the impulse sequence x(n) = (n)
b. Determine system response y(n) due to the unit step function u(n) excitation.
