Paratie Plus - Intro

The document provides steps to model the construction of an underground train station using the software ParatiePlus. The steps include: 1) Adding surcharges to model nearby buildings and road loads; 2) Excavating to the roof slab level and adjusting the water table; 3) Adding the roof slab; 4) Further excavation and installation of the first level of temporary bracing trusses; 5) Repeating excavation and truss installation for two additional levels; 6) Excavating to the bottom slab level and adjusting water level; 7) Adding the bottom slab. The document specifies inputs needed at each step, such as material properties, structural dimensions, and loading.

Soil-structure interaction

training
Our goal
- Learn how to use a software as a design tool
- Learn how to run a FEM analysis
- Practise on a huge and realistic model
- … enjoy your first ParatiePlus model!

… UNDERSTAND THAT
IT-IS-EASIER-THAN-IT-SEEMS

… you can always semplify the real problem

Objective

Analysis section
ParatiePlus analysis

- Nonlinear, step-by-step analysis

- We must model what will happen on site
Step 0: geostatic
We'll do:

- Initialise the model

- Define soil properties
- Define soil layers
- Define materials & struct properties
- Set water table level
- Add walls (why???)
We need:

- Geotechnical parameters & water level:

- Water level: + 7,50

We need:

- Material properties:
Concrete type C30/37: E = 33 GPa
Concrete type C40/50: E = 35 GPa
Steel (for struts): E = 210 Gpa

- Piles properties:
Diameter: D = 1m
Length: L = 28 m
Spacing: Sp = 1,6 m (cc)
Step 1: secant pile wall
execution (start)
We'll do:

Add surcharges
We need:

Surcharges evaluation

Nearby buildings dead load:
L = 95 kPa
Type = strip (from -19m to -10m)

Existing road traffic live load:
L = 20 kPa
Type: strip (from -10 to -1 m)
We need:

Backfilling dead load
L = 30 kPa
Type: surcharge
Step 2: excavation to underside
the roof slab
We'll do:

Change surface level between walls
(downhill) to + 7.7 m

Change the water level to – 1 m between
excavation level (+ 6.7 m)
Step 3: realization of Roof slab
We'll do:

Add the precast roof slab modeled as a
BEAM element connecting the two walls
We need:

Roof section properties to calculate
EQUIVALENT THICKNESS (1m x 0,67 m)
Step 4: excavation to underside
the first temporary bracing level

We'll do:
– change excavation level to + 1,89 m
– Change water table level to +0,89 m
Step 5: installation of the first
temporary truss level
We'll do:

Add first level of struts modeled as
TRUSSES
We need:

Strut properties:
– Material: S355

E = 210.000 Mpa
● fy = 355 N/mm2
● fu = 510 N/mm2
– Cross section:

outer diameter: 812,8 mm

Thickness: 25 mm
– Spacing: 5,50 m
– Elevation: + 3,8 m
Step 6: excavation to underside
the 2nd temporary truss level

We'll do:
– change excavation level to – 3,11 m
– Change water table level to - 4,11 m
Step 7: installation of the 2 nd

temporary truss level

We'll do:

Add second level of struts modeled as
TRUSS
We need:

Strut props: the same as truss level 1

Elevation: z = -1,2 m
Step 8: excavation to underside
the 3rd temporary bracing level
We'll do:

We'll do:
– change excavation level to – 8,41 m
– Change water table level to - 9,41 m
Step 9: installation of the 3 rd

temporary truss level

We'll do:

Add third level of struts modeled as TRUSS
We need:

Strut props: the same as truss levels 1 and 2

Elevation: z = -6,5 m
Step 10: excavation to
underside the bottom slab
We'll do:

Change excavation level to -12,45 m

Change water level to -13,45 m
Step 11: bottom slab installation
We'll do:

Add BOTTOM SLAB modeled as a BEAM
We need:

Bottom slab cross-section:
– Equivalent thickness: 1m;
– Spacing: 1m.

End moment release: 0% (hinge)

Dead load: 25 kN/m
