PG Postgraduate Program
Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU) was first established in 1993 as
Nazareth Technical College (NTC), offering diploma and degree level education in
technology fields. Following its inauguration in May 2006 as Adama University (AU),
the full-fledged university started opening other academic programs in other ar-
eas as an extension to its original mission. Two years later, the university launched
Postgraduate studies in 2008 by introducing Ph.D. by research in few programs. The
postgraduate program has then gradually grown into a full-fledged graduate stud-
ies, offering the Ph.D. degrees in fifteen programs and master degrees in eighteen
programs each having various fields of specialization.

SoANS Internship
At the end of the 2021/2022 academic calendar, 3rd year UG students will conduct in-
ternship at different organizations. The students are currently selecting host organization
for their internship, and all departments have provided all the necessary orientations to
the students. Furthermore, some department also suggested the students some best
host organizations from which they can acquire great experience through the internship
School of Applied Natural Science facilitated several field works or visits for both UG and
PG students that strength their teaching and learning process and industrial engament
upon the request of respective departments. For instance Applied Geology depart-
ment organized field trip for geological survey around Butajira and Hawassa for both
UG and PG students. Currently, 2nd year PG students of this specialization are carrying
out their research, and they have already conducted data via field surveying. The de-
partment has facilitated this field surveying by offering them with important field equip-
ment such as Brunton Compass, Geological hammer, GPS, Sample Bag and others

I. Introduction
The school of Civil Engineering and Architecture has diverse programs coherent
with the Ethiopia’s long-term plan towards developing its water resources and civil
infrastructures in a sustainable way. Expansion of new constructions in developing
countries like ours is vital. Highways, roads, buildings, stadiums and related infrastruc-
tures will boost economy of the country in general. Besides, Ethiopia has a water
resources potential of about 163 billion cubic meters. Considering water availability
and land suitability, the country has about 7.5 million hectares of irrigation poten-
tial. However, these resources are not adequately developed to support socio-eco-
nomic development of the nation. Moreover, frequent floods and droughts have
become serious water-related problems in the country. Therefore, the develop-
ment of civil and water resources engineering related programs must be a cen-
tral element of the country’s strategy to improve the quality of life of the people.

SoHSS Overview
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences comprises of one department and
four academic units. The school admits students of its own by Technology and In-
novation Management program. The School does not admit students of its own by
the remaining four academic units namely; Social Science Unit, Language Unit, Hu-
manities Unit, and Sport Science, but the School offers a broad spectrum of uni-
versity requirement courses, school requirement courses, and program requirement
(elective) courses to engineering and science students. The underpinning princi-
ple of this school is ‘education is for the development of the whole person’, the
development of an educated person in the full sense of a person whose knowl-
edge and understanding is not confined to one form of thought or awareness.
The school of Humanities and Social Sciences has accomplished a number of ac-
tivities in this running academic year (2014 E.C). These activities include:
• In the 2014 E.C academic year, the SoHSS has successfully enrolled and run the
MSc in technology and Innovation Management in weekend program.
• The SoHSS has also provided training on Enhancing Leadership skill, customer
handing and others for administrative staff of Adama Science and Technology
University.
• The SoHSS has also provided training on ‘Business communication skill, Job Inter-
view and CV writing” for graduate students of undergraduate program
• The SoHSS has organized a gymnasium/fitness center and has made ready for
community service
• The SoHSS has developed a proposal to upgrade the sport facilities in the univer-
sity to sport Academy and endorsed for the concerned bodie for final approval.

ASTU library launched a new digital institutional repository (ASTU-ETD) system that
collects, preserve and distribute the scholarly output of the university, mainly post-
graduate Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD), articles, proceedings. The system
dedicated to help users to find all the information they might require in order to
format and successfully submit their graduate thesis, dissertation and publications
electronically. The user-friendly web interface enables to maximize & optimize the
resource sharing among ASTU different schools. Currently, the system contains 1623
thesis and dissertations on different subject areas.
ASTU library implemented a full featured automated system and integrated library
system with comprehensive functionality for circulation, cataloguing, acquisitions,
reserves, patron management, branch relationships, fine management, virtual

Abel and his four friends teamed up in 2018 to innovate different business ideas
while studying at Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU). In 2019,
this team came up with a pesticide spraying drone project and got a mon-
etary prize of ETB 25,000 for winning a “Business Idea Competition”, part of
EDC-ETHIOPIA’s engagement to instil Entrepreneurial mind-set among un-
dergraduate students, organized at University level. More so, making a bam-
boo bike was the second business idea brought by the team in the same year.
After graduating on December, 2020, the team set up a start-up company named
“BammGo” to proceed in producing bamboo bikes. Finding working premises
and capital were the main challenges that they faced. The first problem was re-
solved by the provision of a workshop space by ASTU’s Centre of Excellence for
Entrepreneurship, and financial resources were secured from family & few grants.
Currently, at BammGo 5 bamboo bikes are produced within 15 days. However,
producing 20 eco-friendly bikes per day is the future plan of the startup business.
