Procedure for the admission test

Master International Tourism Development

Approval procedure:
• Please apply online to Deggendorf Institute of Technology. The application period for
the summer semester begins on November 15 and ends on January 15.

• Qualification for the Master’s degree course of International Tourism Development is

proven by completing a basic course of study at a university at home or abroad with
a weighting of at least 210 ECTS points from the fields of Tourism Management, Eco-
nomic Sciences and courses related to tourism or by a qualification which is equivalent
to such a university degree. The examinations committee will decide on the equiva-
lence of the degrees under consideration of section 62 BayHschG. Outstanding proofs
of degree equivalence must be provided by the end of the first semester of study.

• As an applicant for the Master's programme in International Tourism Development,

you qualify by successfully completing a relevant Bachelor's programme and by suc-
cessfully passing an admission test. This test will ensure that you start your studies
with basic skills that match our teaching concept and with the corresponding prospects
of success.

• English language skills:

The programme is conducted in English, therefore English language skills must be
certified at language level B 2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for
Languages of the Council of Europe. With regard to proof of this, the regulations in
paragraph 3 of the Framework Examination Regulations for Additional Training in For-
eign Languages and Compulsory Elective Subjects of a General Academic Nature of
the Deggendorf Institute of Technology apply in the currently valid version.

• German language skills:

Knowledge at level A 2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference
for Languages must be proven during the course of studies and can be acquired while
studying.

Information on the admission test:

• The test is intended to prove the ability to work scientifically and therefore to deter-
mine whether the special qualitative requirements for the successful completion of the
Master's programme in International Tourism Development are met.

• Candidates who meet the formal criteria for admission must be invited to the selection
procedure.
• The admissions procedure consists of a 60-minute written test, which can also be held
online if necessary, and an interview of max. 20 minutes, which can also be conducted
virtually if necessary. The entire admission procedure is carried out by two lecturer
from the Deggendorf Institute of Technology, at least one of whom is involved for the
Master's programme in International Tourism Development.

• The admission procedure takes place in presence or online:

o On-site test in Pfarrkirchen

The admission test at the European Campus Rottal-Inn is free of charge and takes
place at the end of the application period. Applicants will be informed about the
specific date and time. Applicants who wish to take the test in presence have to
register by sending an email the admission team (admission-team-itd@th-
deg.de). Some foreign nationals are required to produce a visa upon entering Ger-
many. Please contact the German consulate if this applies to you. The Deggendorf
Institute of Technology (DIT) does not provide a provisional letter of admission for
visa or any other purposes. The university does not assist students or applicants
with their visa and does not interfere in any processes.

Be sure to bring a valid, government issued photo ID, such as a passport to the
admission test.

o Online-Test

If you are unable to take the test in person at our European Campus Rottal-Inn,
an online test is available at your convenience. The online test will be proctored
by an external service provider and as such will incur a fee of 26 USD. Payment
has to be made with an internationally accepted credit card. In order to take the
online test, you must register with ProctorU. You mustn't register with DIT for the
online test.
ProctorU is a live online proctoring service that allows you to take your exam from
the comfort of your home. ProctorU provides a platform with multi-factor identity
verification and end-to-end video recording with AI based behavior flagging. Test-
takers are guided through the entire process by a live proctor who can also assist
with technical issues. ProctorU is available 24/7; however, you will need to sched-
ule your proctoring session at least 72 hours in advance to avoid any additional
on-demand scheduling fees.

In order to use ProctorU, you will need a high-speed internet connection, a

webcam (internal or external), a windows or apple Operating System, and a gov-
ernment issued photo id.

At the scheduled day and time of your test, you must login to ProctorU. You will
be guided through the next necessary steps and the proctor will unlock the actual
admission test. It is crucial that you have your username and password (provided
via-mail) at hand.

Once you have started the test, you will have 60 minutes to complete it. The
proctor is unable to pause the clock for any reason. This is why we highly recom-
mend that you ensure that your connection is stable for the duration of the online
admission test.

• The purpose of the written examination is to recognise and assess strategic and inter-
national contexts and problems and to be able to present and discuss possible solu-
tions. The main focus is on the basics of tourism, marketing and studying in Germany.
The examination is based on open and multiple-choice questions. The written exami-
nation is considered "passed" if at least 30 of the 60 maximum points to be awarded
are achieved.
• Candidates who have passed the written test "with success" will be invited to the vir-
tual interview. A total of 40 points will be awarded. A minimum of 20 points must be
achieved for successful completion of the interview.

• The following assessment criteria are applied:

o Expert discussion (max. 20 points)

o Motivation for the Master’s programme (max. 10 points)

o Expectations of the Master’s programme (max. 5 points)

o Relation tot he future professions (max. 5 points)

The course-specific eligibility is proven when the written test and the interview have
been passed "with success".
• The procedure for determining suitability for a specific degree programme is carried
out once a year in the winter semester for the following summer semester. Applications
for admission to the procedure, together with the application documents, must be
submitted to the Deggendorf Institute of Technology in the online application proce-
dure by the end of the application period for the following summer semester (cut-off
deadline).
• Applicants who have not provided proof of their course-specific eligibility can re-regis-
ter for the test once more on the date of the following year. In justified exceptional
cases, it is possible to register for the test at a later date. It is not possible to retake
the test at a later date.

• Minutes must be taken of the interview, showing in particular the date and place of
the examination, the names of the candidates, the subjects to be examined as well as
the principles for the assessment of individual performances and the determination of
the results by the members of the examination committee.

• The examination board may waive participation in the interview if the applicant demon-
strates above-average knowledge in the degrees pursuant to section 3, paragraph 1,
no. 1. Degrees with a grade of 2.0 or better are deemed to be above average.
