Study the sentences below. What types of books are they describing?

4. The book teaches people how to improve their confidence and well-being.

Work in pairs. Think about a book you have read recently. Give one positive sentence and one negative
sentence about it like in the example below. Make your descriptions more natural and interesting by
using qualifying adverbs such as `a bit', `a little', `slightly', `quite', `fairly', `very', `really', `extremely'.

4 Retelling a story
When retelling what happens in a book (or film), we often use the present simple. Here are some
examples.
Work in pairs. Think about a book you have read (or a film you have seen). Describe the story in a few
sentences using the present simple.
5 Practice
Work in pairs. Take turns to select and talk about one of the cue cards below. Try to use vocabulary
from this lesson. Remember, you have 1 minute to take notes and 1-2 minutes for talking.
Describe a book that you have read recently. You should say:
- what type of book it is
- what it is about
- how long it took to read
And say what you thought about it.

Monitor the activity. Students should always give a relevant answer. If they are not reading a book at the moment
and are given the third cue card, encourage them to talk about a book they have read in the past. However, they
should explain to the examiner why they are talking about the past, e.g. `Well, I'm not reading anything at the
moment because I don't have the time, so I'm going to tell you about a book I read last year. It's called ...'
