Lesson 1: Generating Patterns

Patterns - It is a series or sequence that repeats

Math patterns are sequences that repeat according to a rule or rules.

Rule - It is a set way to calculate or solve a problem

How to Distinguish a Rule

For non-numerical pattern:

1. Look for the common characteristics of the given objects.
2. Look at how the characteristic is being set in the sequence.
3. Predict the missing items in the sequence.

For a number pattern:

1. Use a number line to see the distance between the numbers or what they
have in common.
2. Look at the last one or two digits or the first digit to see if they repeat in a
special manner.
3. Look at the numbers and see if there is a pattern.
4. Find the difference or quotient between numbers.

Lesson 2: Arithmetic and Geometric Sequences

Arithmetic Sequence - addition/subtraction

Geometric Sequence - multiplication/division

Lesson 7: Remainder and Factor Theorem

Remainder Theorem - It uses evaluation of function to determine the

remainder.

𝑃(𝑥)
If , then the remainder is: 𝑃(𝑐)
𝑥−𝑐

Factor Theorem - It uses evaluation of function and Remainder theorem to

determine if x-c is a factor.

𝑃(𝑥)
If , and the remainder is: 𝑃(𝑐) = 0, then x-c is a factor.
𝑥−𝑐
Lesson 9: Graph of a Polynomial Function

The number of ups and downs is based on the degree of the polynomial.

ODD DEGREE:
If the 1st term is positive it will start at the bottom, and if the 1st term is
negative it will start at the top.

EVEN DEGREE:
If the 1st term is positive it will start at the top and end at the top, and if the 1st
term is negative it will start at the bottom and end at the bottom.

Lesson 10: Central Angles

CA-IA Postulate or The Central Angle-Intercepted Arc Postulate - The

measure of a central angle is equal to the measure of its intercepted arc.

Lesson 11: Inscribed Angles

The Inscribed Angle Theorem - The measure of an inscribed angle is one-half

the measure of its intercepted arc.

The Semicircle Theorem - The angle inscribed in a semicircle is a right angle.

Inscribed Angles in the Same Arc Theorem - Two or more angles inscribed in
the same arch or in congruent arcs are congruent.
