ASSIGNMENT

The document contains a structural analysis assignment question regarding the design of a beam (Beam 01) and calculation of loads, moments, shear forces, and reinforcement requirements. Key details include: - Beam 01 has dimensions of 0.15m x 2.5m with a 0.3m x 0.5m slab on top, spanning 4.5m or 5.5m. - Calculations are shown for self-weight, dead, live and design loads, bending moment, shear force, concrete grade, reinforcement area and spacing requirements. - The required steel reinforcement area is calculated to be 820mm2. Shear links are also required as the shear resistance provided by the concrete is

Q1)

Floor height -3.2m

a) Considering Beam 01

Self-weight = 24 kN/m3 X (0.15 X 2.5) m2 +24 kN/m3 X (0.3 X 0.5) m2 = 12.6 kN/m

Dead load = 3 kN/m2 X 2.5 m = 7.5 kN/m

Live load = 3 kN/m2 X 2.5 m = 7.5 kN/m

Design load = 1.35 (7.5+ 12.6) + 1.5 (7.5) =38.389 kN/m (UDL)

Span 4.5 m
Slab 4.5/2.5 = 1.8< 2
Design load = 38.389 X 4.5 =172.75 Kn
two-way panel

Service Load = 4.5 (7.5 +7.5+12.6) = 124.2 kN

Span 5.5 m
Slab 5.5/2.5 = 2.2 > 2

Design load = 38.389 X 5.5 =211.12 Kn One-way panel

Service Load = 5.5 (7.5 +7.5+12.6) = 151.8 kN

b) Ultimate design B. moment = wL2/ 8 = (38.389 X 5.52) / 8 = 145.158 KNm (pin-pin)

Shear force = wl / 2 = 105.57 kN

wl / 2 = 105.57 kN

wL2/ 8= 145.158

c) Assume concrete is C25 grade

K= M / (bd2fck) = (145.16 X 106) / (300 X 4492 X 25) = 0.09< 0.162 (single r/f)

Z= d [0.5 + (0.25-k/1.134)1/2]

= d [ 0.5+ (0.25-0.09/1.134)]

= 0.9d < 0.95d

= 409.97

As = M/(0.87 fyk Zbal)

= 145.16 x 106/ (0.87X 500X 0.9 X 449)

= 820 mm2

As min = 0.26 (fctm/ fcd) bd > 0.0013bt d

= 0.26 x (2.6/500) x 300 x 449 > 0.0013 x 300 x 449

= 182 > 175

= 182 mm2

Hence As req = 820 mm2

K = 1+ (200/449)1/2

= 1.57 < 2

Ƥ1 = As / (bw d) = 820/(300x449) = 6.08 x 10-3

For shear force

VRc = CRd k (100 Ƥ1 fck)1/3 bw d > Vmin bw d

= 0.12x1.67x(100x6.08x10-3x25)x300x449 > 0.035x1.671.5x250.5x300x449

= 66.87 kN > 50.87 kN

66.87 kN < Ved Hence shear links required.

105.57 kN

66.87

5.5/2

VRdmax = Ved = 105.57 kN

αcw bw zV1 fcd (sin(2θ)/2) = 105.57x103

1x300x0.9x449x0.6x(25/1.5) (sin(2θ)/2) = 105.57x103

sin(2θ) =0.17

θ = 4.890 but 220< θ<450

hence θ= 220

assume shear link diameter is 8 mm

VRd c = AswZ (fywd /s)cot(θ)

S = [ (2xπx42)x0.91x449x500xcot(220) ] / (105.57x103x 1.15)

= 418 mm

Smax = 0.95d (1+cot(α))

= 0.95x 449x (1+cot(900))

= 325 mm

So S =325 mm
