TESTING PROCEDURE - WATER UPTAKE

Capillary water absorption via immersion test (DIN 18180, EN 15148:2002):

• immersion of the mineral substrate for 5 minutes into the ready to use product
• calculation of the coverage rate: take weight before and after immersion
• storing the treated sample for 14 days at 25°C and 50% r.h.

Testing of the water uptake:

• take the weight
• immersion for 24h into water with 5 cm water column above the sample
• reweight after: 0,5h, 1h, 4h and 24h
• as reference an untreated substrate is tested parallely

Results:
• the tested product fulfills the requirement for a good performance, if the reduction of the
water uptake within 24h is > 80% compared to the untreated substrate

APPLICATION MODES FOR
APPLICATION MODES FOR HYDROPHOBIC IMPREGNATION

Solvent dilutable SILRES® BS Products with e.g. white spirit

- Surface has to be clean, dry and dust free
- Start with a test area at first
- Verify the absorbency of the mineral substrate
- The surface remains recoatable
with a good adhesion of paints and coatings
- Suitable for: Hydrophobic Impregnation, Primer
- SILRES® BS 290 apply on neutral to high alkaline silicate based mineral substrates
- Recommended dilution rate: 1:9 – 1:15
- low pressure flooding (1 – 3 bar), spraying, rolling, brushing (all: 2-3 times wet in wet)
- protect treated fassade for 24h from rain contact
