Q2. A 4 pole, 32 conductors, lap-wound dc shunt generator with terminal voltage of
200 volts delivering 12 amps to the load has r a = 2 and field circuit resistance of
200ohms. It is driven at 1000r.p.m. Calculate the flux per pole in the machine. If the
machine has to be run as a motor with the same terminal voltage and drawing 5 amps
from the mains, maintaining the same magnetic field, find the speed of the machine.

resistance is 0.2ohms. The machine has 6 poles and the armature is lap-connected
with 864 conductors. The flux per pole is 0.05Wb. Calculate (1), the speed and (2)

iron and friction losses total 800W. The pulley diameter is 0.41m. Find the pull in
Newton at the rim of pulley.

Q20. A 220V shunt motor has an armature resistance of 0.5ohms and takes an
armature current of 40A on a certain load. By how much must the main flux be
reduced to raise the speed by 50% if the developed torque is constant? Neglect
saturation and armature reaction.
