2. To study the library habits of students at a local college, thirty randomly selected students were
surveyed to determine the number of times they had been to the library during the last week. The
following results were obtained:
1521142154
5251234112
3541224512
Organize the data by creating the frequency distribution and construct a pie chart to represent the data.

3. Table below shows the population in Davao Region based on 2000, 2010 and 2015
censuses. Construct a bar graph and compare the population in three census years.
4. Below is the 2016 distribution of the Philippines’ overseas contract workers according to age group.
The ages 30 – 34 have the highest percentage and 15 – 24 has the lowest. Therefore, I conclude that
during the year 2016 there are lots of Filipinos with ages 30 - 34 working overseas.
Let’s Analyze!
1. A small company of the manager, the administrative assistant, the salesperson, and two technicians
whose monthly salaries are listed below. Assume that this is the entire population, compute the mean, the
median, and the mode. Which of these measures would best represent the salary of workers?
Staff Salary
Manager Php 50,000.00
Administrative Asst 20,000.00
Salesperson 12,000.00
Technician 9,000.00
Technician 9,000.00
Mean = 20,000
Mode = 9,000
Median = 12,000
The median best represents the salary of workers than mean and mode because the data contains
outliers.
2. A salesperson records the following daily expenditures (in Php) during a 10-day trip.
In your opinion, does the mean or the median of the expenditures best represent the salesperson’s
average daily expenditure? Explain your reasoning.
Upon observing the data above, I can conclude that the mean best represents the salesperson’s average
daily expenditure because it is an actual data set and does not contain outliers.
2. Melvin surveyed the price of unleaded gasoline at gas stations in Davao city and Tagum City. The raw
data, in pesos per liter, are given below.
b. Given the standard deviation above, Davao City has more consistently priced gasoline because
it has the highest value of standard deviation.
5. The average number of days construction workers miss per year is 11 with a standard deviation of 2.3.
The average number of days factory workers miss per year is 8 with a standard deviation of 1.8.
With the given standard deviation in the problem, construction workers are more variable in terms of day
missed. Their standard deviation is bigger than the factory workers.
1. A national secondary achievement test is administered annually to high school students. The test has a
mean score of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. If Peter’s z-score is 1.20, what was her score on the
test?
𝑛−100
1. 20 = 15
2. On a reading test, Amelia’s score of 455 was higher than the scores of 4256 of the 7210 students who
took the test. Find the percentile, rounded to the nearest percent, for Amelia’s score.
4256
𝑝= 7210 • 100 = 59%
1. The length of human pregnancies from conception to birth varies according to a distribution that is
approximately normal, with a mean of 266 days and a standard deviation of 16 days. Draw a normal
curve for this distribution on which the mean and standard deviation are correctly located.
5. A professor finds that the grades in a large class are normally distributed. The mean of the grades is 64,
and the standard deviation is 10. If the professor decides to give an A grade to the students in the top 9%
of the class, what is the cut-off score for an A?
