Narrative Explanation
As far as I have researched the 3 groups living here in Mindanao, I have written their differences and
similarity above in the Venn Diagram. As a Filipino, I can say we have similarities in which we are living
on the same island, and under one nationality as fellow countrymen. As a Mindanaoan, I can say we
have no trouble understanding different cultures in beliefs because even Christian schools promote
cultural diversity and cooperation, also I have experienced having a teacher in Ateneo de Davao
Highschool which was proudly a Tausug, and I a part of the Maguindanao Tribe. I have no trouble going
to churches as my friends are mostly Christian and they respect my beliefs not to eat pork as well or
even attend their religious practices such as entering the church and praying, they do not seek to
convert but to understand.
Nevertheless, the discrimination is still evident among people who are either uneducated(unaware of
the do’s and don’ts) or too close-minded (unwilling to see the other groups as respectable human beings
who belong to either of the 3 groups or are foreigners) I have seen some social media “pranks” in which
most people from the Christian group still discriminate Moros by doing bomb jokes/pranks. And even
belittling the Lumads as they only come down from the mountain to ask for food and money. It is very
sad to see these negative differences and experiences coming from here in Davao but the social
injustices are very realistic, especially the land grabbing that the Lumads and Moros experience due to
settlers from the North. As such I have included joining the politics as a difficult thing for Moros since
there are only a few who represent us in the senate, but now there is Robin Padilla and as we can see
there is mixed feedback from this since he is not having a good background on politics but has good
intentions and became a senator due to the Moro People voting for him as he included their goals in his
platform. But I only want what is best for my fellow countrymen especially here in Mindanao I hope
Federalism will go through since as a Mindanaoan I would like to see our land be independent,
flourishing, and self-sufficient.
