Elite - G8 - STEM PROJECT 1

During hurricane season, large waves commonly cause beach erosion and damage. A coastal community is looking to install preventative measures to reduce this damage. The student has been selected for a committee to evaluate designs and build a demonstration model. They will research how wave amplitude and frequency affect beach damage and technologies used to reduce shoreline impacts. The project involves answering questions to research the topics and citing sources.

DON’T MAKE WAVES

During the Atlantic hurricane season, videos of huge

waves crashing against the shore are commonly seen on
national weather reports.
These waves are known to cause extensive beach damage
to shorelines. Many coastal areas are known for their
beaches, which are major tourism draws to their
communities.

One coastal community is looking to install a preventive measure to reduce the damage to the
beach caused by waves during storms. You have been selected to be a part of a committee that
will evaluate different preventive designs.
You will choose which design will be the most economical for your community and build a model
to demonstrate ate how the design will help protect the beach.
