Let the students give their insights or understanding about the following words:

1. ACTIVITY
“GRAPHIC ORGANIZER”
The class will be divided into three (3) groups.
The groups will choose one non-communicable disease and create their
own graphic organizer about the disease. Prepare for a show-and-tell
activity in class.
Each group will be given 5 minutes to finish the activity.
Each member of the group must have a contribution/ideas in making the
activity.
After 5 minutes, each group will present their output to the class.
Guide questions:
1. What do you know about this non-communicable disease?
2. Where do people get these diseases?
3. When should a person be aware of the signs and symptoms of these
diseases?
4. How do we prevent these diseases from entering our body?
2. ANALYSIS
Let the students answer the following questions:
1. What did you feel about the activity?
2. Is it important for us to be more vigilante in knowing facts from fallacies?
Why?
3. Does it make a difference if you have knowledge about these diseases and
ways to treat them? How?
4. When do we need to be conscious about our health?
3. ABSTRACTION/ GENERALIZATION
(The teacher in this portion would discuss the most important
concepts about non-communicable diseases and discuss brief explanation of the
difference between fallacies/myths and facts about non-communicable diseases)
4. APPLICATION
The teacher will divide the class into 3. Each group must prepare a
presentation related to their personal experiences where they encountered
fallacies that was later changed into facts because of discussion.
1. Lifestyle during childhood and adolescence affects risk for cardiovascular diseases in
later life.
2. A diabetes diagnosis means you automatically need insulin.
3. Only women get breast cancer
4. Seventy to eighty percent of women who gets breast cancer have no family history of the
disease.
5. Asthma medicine is addictive
6. Asthma is caused by respiratory problems and triggered by allergens.
7. Arthritis is just aches and pains.
8. Pain felt from arthritis is caused by bone rubbing up against bone and has nothing to do
with climate.
9. Men having breast tissue can also develop breast cancer.
10. In type 2 diabetes, the body doesn’t respond normally to insulin and is caused by genetic
and lifestyle factors.
