Digital Image Steganography Using Matrix Addition-Slides

This document discusses digital image steganography using matrix addition. It describes representing digital images and hidden messages as matrices. Direct least significant bit substitution is detectable due to distortion, while the proposed method replaces substitution with addition to be less detectable.

offers security tools for: secrecy protection, authentication,

can hide secrets inside images or other digital objects on a local computer, LAN or Internet Secrets remain invisible to a casual observer inspecting these files

Most important requirements

Steganography

Imperceptibility

Undetectability

With full knowledge of the embedding algorithm, except the key, should be no artifacts in the filled container that could be detected by an attacker with probability better than guessing Kerckhoffs principle

Digital Image Steganography

Data hiding by substitution in digital images Imperceptibility is provided by substitution of the least significant bits (LSB) Example of the color pixel:

01100110

01100110 LSB

Matrix representation of Hidden Message

Hidden data as a file with natural matrix structure Steganographic System
If the hidden data is initially stored in a binary image and then embedded in the container it is much harder to detect. Such technique can be recommended as a means of rather strong steganography.

The intuitive heuristic
Embedding distortion in the container Security of the steganographic scheme

Direct LSB substitution is easily detectable because it introduces distortion that never naturally occurs to images and creates an imbalance between appropriately defined statistical quantities

Proposed Steganographic Method

Image Steganography
Embedding Replacement of direct substitution with addition of the hiding bit to the value of pixel intensity Extraction
