FORMULATION PROCEDURE:
‚ Add hydrosol in beaker A. Add oil and Olivem in beaker B. In a water bath, heat both
beakers A and B to approximately 75–77° Celsius.
‚ Once they’ve reached the right temperature, add beaker B to beaker A in the water bath,
while stirring with a mini whisk. After a minute or so of vigorous stirring, remove the
beaker and place it in a cool water bath. Continue to stir vigorously.
‚ Once the emulsion starts to thicken slightly, continue to stir it regularly at intervals until
the temperature in the beaker has gone under 40° Celsius.
‚ Add the rosehip CO2 extract, cucumber glycerite and vitamin E oil one by one, using
a pipette and whisk all 3 ingredients into the emulsion properly.
‚ Remove a tiny amount of the emulsion into a small beaker and dip a pH strip (or meter)
into it. Measure the pH to see if it measures between 4–6.
‚ If the pH is too high, add a couple of drops of a citric acid or lactic acid solution.
If the pH is too low, add a couple of drops of a sodium bicarbonate solution.
(These ingredients can be purchased from cosmetic ingredients suppliers).
‚ Measure the pH again to see if it measures between 4–6. Once the pH is correct,
add the preservative and ensure it is blended fully.
‚ Add the emulsion to your pump bottle and once it’s cool, add the lid. Now label the
bottle and enjoy your beautiful botanical eye cream!
