AP Physics Kinematics Equations Problem Set 2 2020 PDF

1. An airplane accelerates down a runway at 3.2 m/s^2 for 32.8 seconds. The distance traveled before takeoff is calculated to be 103 meters. 2. A feather is dropped on the moon from a height of 1.4 meters. With the moon's gravity of 1.67 m/s^2, the time for the feather to fall is calculated to be 1.74 seconds. 3. A rocket sled is accelerated to 444 m/s in 1.83 seconds. The acceleration is calculated to be 242 m/s^2 and the distance traveled is calculated to be 413 meters.

AP Physics Kinematics Equations Problem Set #2 2020

Show work: formula, math and answer boxed with correct units. Problem 8 is optional

1. An airplane accelerates down a runway at 3.20 m/s2 for 32.8 sec until it finally lifts off the
ground. Determine the distance traveled before takeoff.

2. A feather is dropped on the moon from a height of 1.40 meters. The acceleration of
gravity on the moon is 1.67 m/s2. Determine the time for the feather to fall to the surface
of the moon.

3. Rocket-powered sleds are used to test the human response to acceleration. If a

rocket-powered sled is accelerated to a speed of 444 m/s in 1.83 seconds, then what is
the acceleration and what is the distance t hat the sled travels?

4. A car traveling at 22.4 m/s skids to a stop in 2.55 s. Determine the skidding distance of
the car (assume uniform acceleration).
5. Michael Jordan had a vertical leap of 1.29 m, What was his takeoff velocity and hang
time (total time in the air)?

6. A bullet leaves a rifle with a muzzle velocity of 521 m/s. While accelerating through the
barrel of the rifle, the bullet moves a distance of 0.84 m. Determine the acceleration of
the bullet.

7. You are on top of a building that is 75 m tall. You toss a ball straight up with an initial
33.8 m/s. How high does the ball travel? It goes up and then falls down to the ground
below. How much time is it in the air?

8. An engineer is designing a runway for an airport. Several planes will use the runway and
the engineer must design it so that it is long enough for the largest planes to become
airborne before the runway ends. If the largest plane accelerations at 3.3 m/s2 and has a
takeoff speed of 88 m/s, then what is the minimum allowed length for the runway?
9. In an action movie, the villain is rescued from the ocean by grabbing onto the ladder
hanging from a helicopter. He is so intent on gripping the ladder that he lets go of his
briefcase of counterfeit money when he is 130m above the water, If the briefcase hits the
water 6 s later, what was the speed at which the helicopter was ascending? This
problem is for fun…..
