3rd Quarter Week 7 Math

This document contains a lesson plan on circles for a 7th grade mathematics class. It includes objectives, content, procedures, examples, and evaluation. The teacher introduces circles and their key terms like radius, diameter, chord, center, arc, and angle types. Examples are provided of different circle parts. Students answer guide questions to learn the definitions and have a true/false activity and illustration exercise to apply their understanding.

III. Procedure

1. Prayer
Before we start our lesson, let us have a simple
prayer.

2. Greetings
Good morning class. How are you today? I
hope all of you are doing great. Are you ready?
to learn our new lesson?

3. Checking Attendance
I’m glad to say that all of you are present
today.

4. Review
Last time, we had discussed the polygon, if you still remember our yesterday’s topic, what is a polygon?
How do you get the interior angle of a polygon?
How about the outside angle or the exterior angle?

5. motivation
It seems that you really understand our previous topic.
To begin our discussion, I will show you pictures first.

What have you noticed about these pictures?

What have you observed?
What are their similarities?

6. Presentation
Very good, those are Circles!
Anyone from the group, can you give your idea of what is circle?
Circle, Circle- is defined as the set of all points that are at the same distance from a given point on the
plane. The measure of an angle in one rotation is 360⁰.
Just like the polygon, the circle has its part. To reveal the parts of the circle, I have here a video
presentation and you all have to do is jot down the important details about the part of the circle, because
you will use that information by answering these questions.

Guide Questions:
1. What is a circle
2. What are the parts of a circle?
3. What is the radius?
4. What is a diameter?
5. What is a chord?
6. What is the center?
7. What is the interior of the circle?
8. What is the exterior of the circle?
9. What is an arc?
10. What is the central angle?
11. What is the inscribed angle?
12. What is secant and tangent?

7. lesson
Since you are done watching the video, let’s answer the guide question.
Circles and circular forms are used in geography, astronomy, and navigation. Circles are used as basic
forms in fine arts and architecture because they are pleasing to the eye. Examples of objects with circular
shapes are the coins in our pockets, the wheels on our cars, the lenses in our cameras, our dinner plates,
and the compact discs we play.

Guide Questions:
1. What is a circle
A circle- is defined as the set of all points that are at the same distance from a given point on the
plane. The measure of an angle in one rotation is 360⁰.
2. What is the radius?
Radius- It is a segment from the center to any point on the circle. If have two radius is called
radii..
3. What is a diameter?
Diameter- A chord that contains the center of a circle
4. What is a chord?
Chord- a line segment whose end points lie on a circle.
5. What is the center?
Chord- a line segment whose end points lie on a circle.
6. What is the interior of the circle?
Interior of the circle- A set of points (shaded) in the plane of a circle whose distances from the
center are less than the length of the radius.
7. What is the exterior of the circle?
Interior of the circle- A set of points (shaded) in the plane of a circle whose distances from the
center are less than the length of the radius.
Let’s give us examples, as you can see, • C (Point C) - is the center of a circle. AB (Line segment
AB)– is the diameter of a circle. AC & BC (Line segment AC and BC)- is a radius of a circle. AD
(Line segment AD)- is a chord of a circle. • P (Point P) – interior of a circle. • Q (Point Q)-
exterior of a circle.
8. What is an arc?
Arc- a segment of the circumference of a circle.
9. What is the central angle?
Arc- a segment of the circumference of a circle.

In the figures above, point A and B determine two arcs, 𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴 (arc AB) and AMB (arc AMB).
Arc AB is a minor arc. A minor arc is the union of points A and B and all points of the circle in
the interior of ∡AOB. Arc AMB is a major arc. A major arc is the union of the points A and B
and all points of the circle in the exterior of ∡ AOB. Notice that a major arc is named using three
capital letters, the middle letter names a third point in the arc

10. What is the inscribed angle?

Inscribed angle- is the angle formed in the interior of a circle when two secant lines intersect on
the circle. It can also be defined as the angle subtended at a point on the circle by two given
points on the circle.

11. What is secant and tangent?

Secant- is a line which intersects the circle at two distinct points while the Tangent- it is a line, a ray, or
a segment in the plane of the circle which intersects the circle at exactly one point. This point is called the
point of tangency.
Let’s have another examples,

8. Generalization.
To sum up our discussion, I have here a true or false activity. You all have to do is to identify whether the
statement is true or false.
Directions: Determine whether each statement is true
or false. Write the answers in a separate sheet of paper.
_______1. Two radii always have the same length.
_______2. Two chords always have the same length.
_______3. All chords are diameter.
_______4. A tangent to a circle intersects a radius.
_______5. A radius is a chord of a circle.
_______6. A secant contains a chord.
_______7. An arc is a segment of a circumference of a circle.
_______8. An inscribed angle is a formed in the interior of a circle when two secant lines
intersect on the circle.
_______9. A tangent passes through the center of a circle.
_______10. The center is a fixed point of a circle.

9. Application.
It seems that you really understand our today’s topic, For application of what we have learned, we will
have another activity.
Directions: Illustrate the parts of the given circle.

IV. Evaluation.
Directions: In the figure at the right, identify the
following. Write your answer on a separate answer sheet.
Center__________
Secant__________
Radius__________
Tangent_________
Diameter________
Point of Tangency__________
