Analytic Geometry Parabola Problems

The document contains information about ellipses. It provides the definition of an ellipse as a curve where the sum of the distances from any point on the curve to two fixed points (foci) is a constant. It then works through an example problem, where the foci are located at (-3,0) and (3,0) and the constant distance sum is 8. Through algebraic steps, it arrives at the equation 7x^2 + 16y^2 - 112 = 0 to represent this ellipse.

Ellipse

Problem 01
Determine the equation of the curve such that the sum of the distances of any point of the curve from
two points whose coordinates are (–3, 0) and (3, 0) is always equal to 8.

From the definition of ellipse, the given points (–3, 0) and (3, 0) are the foci and the sum 8 is the
length of the major axis.
