Position Description for

Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adult Ministries


Overview

The American Church in Paris (ACP) is an interdenominational and international Christian community
whose mission is to bear witness by word and deed to the love of God as revealed in Jesus Christ to
provide a place of English-language worship in the American Protestant tradition, and to engage in
ministries and services that enrich the lives of residents and visitors in Paris.

The Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adult Ministries (YAYA Pastor) is responsible for leading
the Youth & Young Adult Ministry of the American Church in Paris as a full-time member of the
Pastoral team. Responsibilities include the administration of the program, the Christian development
of youth and young adults, and recruiting and supervising the youth intern. We are looking for a pastor
who has experience in a diverse community culturally, nationally and denominationally.

The successful applicant will report to the Senior Pastor and work with the other Pastors and staff in
the whole ministry of the Church, will serve as the primary pastoral staff resource for the Youth and
Young Adult program, and will recruit and, with the Associate Pastor for Congregational Life,
supervise the Youth and Young Adult Ministries Intern. Additional responsibilities include assisting in
worship services, preaching, and working with congregational ministry committees and task forces as
delegated by the Senior Pastor.

Main responsibilities

The YAYA Pastor will work under the supervision of the Senior Pastor.

Youth Ministry:
• Build the Christian faith of the youth of the Church
• Lead Bible studies, social gatherings, and other activities including weekly youth group
meetings
• Coordinate and help teach yearly Confirmation Curriculum
• Coordinate participation of youth in the worship services
• Organize and lead youth mission programs and mission trips
• Recruit, equip, develop and meet with youth leaders
• Meet parents at least once a quarter to hear their feedback on the program

Young Adults Ministry:

• Build the Christian faith of the young adults of the Church


• Lead and coordinate Bible studies, social gatherings, retreats/conferences and other activities
• Oversee ACP Young Adult small groups as pastor
• Organize/coordinate mission trips
• Develop and grow volunteer leadership team through recruitment, training and discipleship
• Facilitate and encourage young adult engagement in the life, mission and ministries of ACP

Other responsibilities for Youth and Young Adult ministries:

• Recruit and supervise Youth and Young Adult Ministries Intern with the Associate Pastor for
Congregational Life
• Develop and strengthen relationships and partnerships with area English-speaking schools,
universities, and college extension campuses
• Oversight of social media and communications of youth and young adults with
Communications Committee and in accordance with social media policies of the ACP
• Participation in Christian Education and Mission Outreach Ministry Committees

Worship

As assigned by Senior Pastor:

• Participation in ACP Contemporary Services each Sunday


• Pulpit preaching for ACP Worship services up to once a month
• Attending and serving at all Sunday worship services
• Sharing in the celebration of the sacraments and in officiating at weddings and funerals

Qualifications

• Ordained pastor in a mainstream Protestant denomination


• Strong sense of calling for Youth and Young Adult Christian ministry
• Ability to create a fun and welcoming Christian environment
• Ability to communicate on the usual social media channels for the youth and young adults
• Ability to communicate and work well in a team
• Ability to supervise
• Adaptability: able to function in a highly international and diverse community
• Native English speaker or fully bilingual, French an asset
• Previous experience as youth pastor
• Previous international experience is an asset

Compensation

Compensation for this position includes salary & benefits, plus housing (two-bedroom apartment) in
Paris. The applicable salary will depend on the candidate’s experience.
