Flood Hits Bandung after Heavy Rain

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Heavy rainfall since Thursday afternoon, February 22, until
midnight has caused some street in Bandung, West Java, inundated by floods.
West Java National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) Spokesman Joshua
Banjarnahor said currently the SAR team is collecting data on the number of houses and
residents affected by the flood. "One Bandung SAR office conducted an assessment as
well as evacuation of residents affected by floods in Bandung and surrounding areas," he
said via a text message on Friday.
Several roads, such as Soekarno Hatta, Caringin, Kopo, Antapani, Koja Sand,
Leuwi Panjang, Pagarsih, Cibaduyut, and several other areas were reported badly flooded
in varying heights. In some places, the flood water reached up to the height of an adult
shoulder.
A number of motorists were forced to stop the vehicle and wait until the flood
receded. The floods not only hit the city of Bandung, Bandung Regency area including
Majalaya, Bojongsoang, Andir, and Baleendah also submerged due to the Citarum River
flows increased. Furthermore, the traffic from Bandung-Rancaekek precisely around
Kahatex area was closed as Bandung inundated by the heavy flood.

Why is Learning English Important?

Language is the mean of communication. Mostly groups of society have their own
languages. Some of them appear the top global languages. Most people in the
world hear about English, Arabic, and Mandarin. However English is the most
global spoken language. Then if a man wants to catch a global goal, he has to
master English.
Everyone recognize that English is an international language. English is used in
writing and speaking by many people all over the world. It can be either as a first
or second language. We even hear British, American, Australian, and even
Singaporean English. Those various names of English are used as the first
language in those countries. Furthermore, some countries have their own languages
as a mother language but also use English mostly in daily communication.
Besides usage in daily interaction, English is also used as a key to open doors
leading to scientific and technical knowledge. No wonder we find manual guides
and instructions of many devices written in English. Even if we have a pack of
instant noodle, we will see the cooking instruction also written in English. This
transfer of science and technology will include many countries in economic, social
and politics development.
Finally, the most easily seen in the importance of learning English is that most top
requirement in filling job opportunities is the ability using English; active or
passive. Job applicants who master English are more favorable than ones who do
not. The above facts prove that everybody needs to learn English if he likes to greet
the global era.

Marie Curie (1867 – 1934)

Until the end of the 1800’s, chemistry and physics were treated almost as separate sciences.
Gradually the barriers between these fields came down, through the work of scientist like
Curie and her husband, Pierre Curie. Together the Curies discovered the rare chemical
element Radium and helped to launch modern nuclear physics.

In 1903, the Curies and another French scientist, Antoine Henrie Bacquerel won the Nobel
prize in physics for their discovery of radioactive elements. Madame Curie was the first

We Should Change the Payment System

Nowadays, the system of payment gradually changes. Most people use debit cards instead
of cash to make payment. They think it is more effective, efficient, easier, and simpler.
However, there are still arguments about the use of debit cards as a method of payment.
Well, if you use the card, you will say that the card is so practical. You don’t need to
count how much you should pay. When paying in cash, people are afraid of making mistakes
in counting the banknote for both the payment and the change. With debit cards the mistakes
is made smaller.
Moreover, you should know that the debit cards are safer than money. Suppose you bring
a lot of money when travelling. If it is lost or stolen, you will be left with nothing in your
hands. However, if you bring a debit card, you can just phone the bank which issues the card
to block it.
On the other hand, people who disagree on the use of debit card will say that its use is so
limited. When you buy something in a traditional market, or a vendor , for example, can you
pay using a credit card? Of course not.
Another thing is that, if you want to use the card, you should make a purchase at
minimum amount. If you make less than the minimum transaction, you cannot make use of
the card.
For those reasons we think that credit cards are not fully effective as a means of payment.
We should trace the incoming and ongoing money in our account. Besides, we have to control
our habit of buying first, paying later habit. Otherwise, without being realized we are charged
a lot. You don’t have to use credit cards if not necessary.

semester suddenly its implementation being stopped. This cancellation based on the orders of
new education minister AnisBaswedan. He thought that 2013 curriculum is still too soon to
be conducted and requires a lot of revision. This decision raises a variety of reactions in the
community. There are some people who disagree with the decision of education minister and
others reject the dismissal of 2013 curriculum.

Most people consider the government’s decision is right. According to them 2013
curriculum seems to be imposed by the previous education minister. There are some reason
why this curriculum should be stopped such as the unpreparedness of teachers, lack of books
which implement 2013 curriculum and the lack of socialization.

Meanwhile for those who do not agree with the withdrawal of 2013 curriculum
thought that the implementation of the 2013 curriculum was good and proper to be
implemented since 2013 curriculum emphasizes learning based on scientific and authentic
assessment. The recall of 2013 curriculum is confusing schools which have been
implementing this curriculum. They should go back to the old curriculum, while they have
implemented in some semester. The withdrawal of the 2013 curriculum is also considered as
a waste because the money used for 2013 curriculum spends a lot of costs become useless.
In conclusion, the withdrawal of 2013 curriculum still raises pros and cons in the
community. Therefore, the government should take responsibility for these decisions to revise
the 2013 curriculum well so that all parties can accept the deletion of this 2013 curriculum.

Dilan 1990 film has finally been officially aired in theaters starting on January 25
yesterday. The film itself involves Pidi Baiq who is the author of the novel Dilan 1990 as the
script writer. As for the affairs of the director is held by Fajar Bustomi who also directed the
film Little Letter To God.
As a film adapted from a novel best seller of society's expectations of this movie is very
large. Moreover, the storyline that was built in the time setting of the 1990s as well as the
character of a strong character in the novel, especially Dilan and Milea make the audience put

great expectations on this film. No wonder if on the third day of this movie has received
921,000 viewers. However, there are some notes that become advantages and disadvantages
of this film.
You who have read the novel and imagine will find a romantic scene in the movie then
you will not feel disappointed because for this affair Iqbal Dhiafakhri Ramadan who plays
Dilan and Vanesha Prescilla who plays Milea characters can show a very strong chemistry in
scenes involving Milea and Dilan. The impression of high school kids who are in love are
very well visualized by both of them. For this the movie Dilan 1990 was very successful.
When asked when will Dilan 1990 book be lifted to the big screen? Pidi Baiq as the
author does say Dilan will be appointed to the big screen if he himself as the author has time
to work on it. Apparently Pidi as a writer has a very big affection for the characters in this
novel. For it is not surprising if the script writing in the film Pidi Baiq still take part.  And for
this, evident from the dialogues contained in the film can be spelled out as a life in this film.
You who have read the novel will have an image of Dilan as a brave man who is not
afraid of anything and is very reliable, besides the funny and romantic side of course. For the
affairs of the dialogues in a quiet and romantic scene Iqbal somewhat successful Dilan plays.
But for the scene where Dilan must show the bad boy side , like when he was fighting for
example, there is a visualization that is not achieved as expected by audiences played by
Iqbal. Perhaps this is because the thick character of Iqbal is known as cute as the personnel of
CJR.
But apart from the existence of some shortcomings, this film is not a bad movie because
it has many advantages and very worthy to watch. And you should never judge without
seeing it directly. As Iqbal himself says, if you do not like it, "Watch it and make a review!".
