PART A. GROUP EFFORT:

A. Write a short impression of What Is Feminism and Its Role to
the World Today?

At first, we found feminism scary and we thought what it meant

was women's domination in where they want an upper hand against
men but right now, we find ourselves foolish before because
feminism is totally different from my views. Feminism isn’t about
one gender being on top of one another but it is about pulling
the one who’s on top into the same level in where both are foot
holding on equal ground, and as we look back on the history of
women we realize that this movement crucial not just for the
rights of the women but also for the order of world’s aspect
especially politics since before and until now it is male-
dominated and thanks to feminism, women are finally free from the
restriction of both voting and running for government leader.

B. ASSESSING THE PAPER OF JOSE RIZAL.

)As an unmarried woman, what qualities to look for a man?

Jose Rizal warns that unwed ladies should not be fooled by

appearances and looks, which can be deceitful. Instead, they
should pay attention to men's strong personalities and lofty
ideals. Rizal believes that in order to find a good man you have
to acquire these 3 traits: "A young woman must search for three
things in a man she wishes to marry: a noble and revered name, a
manly heart, and a high spirit incapable of being happy with
engendering slaves.

)As a wife, how to be moral & decent to his man & other men?

Rizal describes how Filipino women are recognized for their

submissiveness, tenderness, and love for their husbands which
will be the way to be moral to men. Filipino women should behave
as spouses in order to maintain the race's identity.

)As a mother, what to teach them? & Rizal’s meant “to be like
mother Sparta?

Mothers in the Philippines should instill in their children the

love for God, nation, and fellow citizens. Filipino mothers, like
Spartan moms, should be pleased and gratified to offer their boys
in defense of their country, in order to further foster
patriotism and affection for our fellow citizens. It is also a
way to rear her offspring in the service of the state – as Rizal
refers to Spartan women who exemplify this character.

)As a woman in general, what are the things to be given

importance?

Filipino women should be aware of how to preserve their honor and

dignity. Apart from preserving their good racial characteristics,
Rizal thought that Filipino women should educate themselves to
avoid ignorance.

)As a Filipina, what if she cannot change her mode of being?

Rizal states that if such a situation occurs, then the woman must
not raise any more children. She must cease to be the mistress of
the home, for she will risk betrayal of her husband and her
children.

PART B. INDIVIDUAL OPINIONS:

CAT ALIDCAN

From what I have read, I see this as Jose Rizal expressing his
frustrations regarding the social standards for women back then.
Having a Maria Clara character was everything a woman could ever
be. The Filipinas before were kind, modest, voices never raising,
and everything nice–to the point that it wasn't to the point that
their tame characters turned into ignorant ones. Rizal expressed
his hope for the women to raise their children differently. To
not let them be led blindly by whatever man, to forget ignorance
and negligence to acquire knowledge and courage to speak and
treat everyone equally to treat your own self as an equal.

All these thoughts of his are relevant in today's society. Where

these standards are broken, boundaries are crossed. Equality is
being fought for. Women are effectively using their voices to
speak up against being led blindly by men. Against laws that
violate our individual rights. We have more freedom compared to
the women before. We aim for knowledge and wisdom, and condemn
ignorance. The women of today's society are what Jose Rizal hoped
for. I think that if he were to witness today's society, he would
be a proud man for the women.

PAOLO MIGUEL VIRAY

As we live in a MACHO FEUDAL society where we are ruled by men,

women are forced to express themselves as a prim and proper MARIA
CLARA in the past in order to please the men and to not be
ridiculed. The fight for equal rights is what RIZAL aims by
creating the paper. Having the same opportunities as the men when
it comes to education emphasizes the importance of freedom of
thought and the right to education for both boys and girls.

On my personal opinion, I think that the women of today are

closer to what RIZAL is aiming for in his time. THE WOMEN OF
TODAY ARE POWERFUL AND THEY DO NOT LET THEMSELVES BE BOUND BY
UNREASONABLE EXPECTATIONS OF SOCIETY ON WOMEN. THE WOMEN OF TODAY
ARE BREAKING STREOTYPES AND BOUNDARIES TO PAVE THE WAY FOR THE
YOUNGER GENERATION. BOUND ONLY BY THEIR WILL TO HAVE AN EQUAL
SOCIETY WHERE MEN AND WOMEN ARE LOOKED UPON ON THE SAME LENS.
NOW, IT IS TIME TO TAKE UP SPACE.

KYLE MATTHEW ALMARIO

In the past we can see the uncalled for treatment of the men to
the ladies since they accept that guys are prevalent than the
female ones, to accommodate the two which is the Rizal's ideal
woman and to the women in today age, we can see the improvement
of woman's rights as the years progressed, as I've realized when
I read the article entitled young woman of Malolos we can see the
upsides of lady in the general public since mother are essential
in the movement of the general public since they are the primary
who opens the cognizance of the man, In today’s age in our
current reality where we are in a headway period it is imperative
to spread the data that Rizal wrote in his letter wherein it
expresses that the mother has the part to instruct his child to
turn into a mindful that loves his kindred individuals and his
country. Women these days are near gotten equivalent to the men
yet we ought not be consistently center around this on the
grounds that the significant directive for this is to shape the
man to take the correct way and to keep away from obliviousness
that loves his country.
SHAUN STEVEN TUTUANI

The Ideal woman of Dr. Jose Rizal shows independence without

ignorance, modesty without servitude, and religiousness without
absurd saintliness in where he only completely realized when he
was criticizing the stereotype of women in his time and suddenly
met a woman from the famous Malolos Women, and if I will
reconcile his ideal to today’s women, I’ll have to say that they
are both close and far, why? Because modern women advocate a
strong independent woman demeanor, a woman who bows for no man,
and a woman who breaks the Maria Clara stereotype because right
now, women are no longer bounded to society’s expectation and
they are now entitled to their own opinion. While all these
powerful changes occurred in the past decades and centuries, some
women were also complete different or worst rather, some use
their voices just to cancel someone for the sake of their own
entertainment, some destroy someone else’s life just to have
their own happy ending, and some catfish people for money and
luxury. In totality, there different kinds of women regardless of
time but the only thing that they have similarities with is they
always evolve, maybe it for better or worse, after all, women are
just human too.

JANEL QUE-AN BANAGA

Early feminists were vehement in rejecting abortion. Feminist

foremothers did not support abortion and male-bashing of today.
These women valued love, marriage equality and the lives of both
mother and child in critical pregnacy. By concern in mother's
health, they were motivated to oppose abortion. The deaths of
unborn children and risks taken by mothers serve as evidence of
problems faced by women in society instead of being solutions to
them During antiseptic procedures invention in 1930s, all surgery
carried infection risk and possible death. Abortion bans, which
were enacted until the 20th century, were response to realities
of Victoria double standards and antisepsis and not measure to
fetal protection. Legislators focused on procedure related to
women because women did not really like sexual relation even with
their husbands. They only did it to become mothers and the act of
procreation ultimately made husbands faithful. Many of the
foremothers of feminism were ingrained with thinking that good
girls did not talk anything about sexual period. Many eighteenth
through twenty first century feminists opposed abortion on demand
as violence against lives of female. This old but new vision of
reproductive choice is called pro-life feminism or anti-abortion
feminism. Such feminism is the opposite of abortion by some
feminists. Anti-abortion feminists believe that the principles
behind women's rights also called them to oppose abortion on
right to life grounds and that abortions harm women more than
benefit them. The modern anti-abortion feminist movement cites
precedent in the 19th century. The movement began to shape up in
the early to mid 1970s with the founding of Feminists for Life
(FFL) in the United States and Women for Life in Great Britain
amid legal changes in those nations which widely permitted
abortions. FFL and Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) are the most
prominent anti-abortion feminist organization in the United
States and others are New Wave Feminists and Feminist for Non-
violent Choices.Feminism today is not a man-hating group of
women, or those who feel as though they deserve more than male
counterparts. Feminism today is a social movement and belief
focused on changing society for betterment, though, originally
created to ensure basic women human rights. Women remain far from
equal both in the Western world and globally though strides were
made towards equality. Feminism remains a vital issue today for
contemporary women as it did for the brave and pioneering
suffragettes at the turn of the twentieth century. The feminist
movement has effected change in Western society, including
women's suffrages; increased access to education; more equitable
pay with men; right to initiate divorce proceedings; right to
make individual decisions regarding pregnancy, access to
contraceptives, abortion and right to property. Feminism has
reduced domestic violence against men as their likelihood of
being killed by female partner has decreased. However, fourth
wave feminism has coincided with male violence increase and
femicides in women regarded as backlash.

Feminism help society in a way of literally fighting for

society to value the feminine identity as much as the masculine.
The positive effects of feminism on everyone's life expectancy
and well being, especially children is significant as feminism
challenges restrictive gender norms, improvements in women's
health care access, reproductive rights and protection from
violence.
JKURT DELA CRUZ

Rizal's idea of the perfect woman is very much similar to women

of today's generation. Women in more modern times have taken into
their hands matters that were considered to be only solvable with
men's capabilities way back in the past. Even though I believe
that some people mistake feminism to only be women being treated
like men, same opportunities but with female priveleges, I cannot
deny the fact that most of the women of today see through the
true meaning of feminism.

HARVY JAMES DOMINGO

When I first heard the word "feminism" and its goals, I didnt pay
enough attention because I always thought that it didn't affect
me at all. But when the time comes and I'm starting to realize
what it means, I always get affected when I hear anything about
degrading other people. I realized that feminism is fighting for
equal rights, which is a good thing for most people because it
makes people feel confident.

LYLE VILLAS

Feminism is the domination of woman on a country that's what i

thought at first and i really hate when a women is not submissive
or rather to dominant but now I've come to the realization that
feminism is not what i thought it will be but rather just giving
the rights to women than men has and now that i realize that
feminism is about that, now i truly think that it's a good idea
because women also need to have the rights that men has and it
also opens the world for more people that has potential.

ALLAN SALVADOR

The ideal woman of rizal is much more modest and clever, but
today's woman is lot more liberated. They have the freedom to
express themselves anyway they want and to be one-of-a-kind.It
can be different in Rizal's ideal woman but it can also be
identical at the same time because every woman nowadays is unique
but provides the same love to the person that they love.
