JANOSA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

OCTOBER 26, 2022
INTRODUCTION

I. HISTORY OF JANOSA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

On general belief an observation about the importance of education, the concern

citizens of Talim Island, Binangonan, Rizal taught of a plan on putting up a secondary

school. Since secondary education in Talim Island is oftentimes attained only by the

family who can afford to send their son and daughter to school, Janosa being center-

point barangay was chosen to be the land of installation. During the 60’s and 70’s

Morong High School and Binangonan Catholic were the only nearest schools for

secondary course.

Janosa Barrio High School was founded on August 1, 1969 with the joint efferts

of the Division Office and the Barrio Council of Janosa led by Barrio Captian Mariano

Ramos and PTA President Apolonio Villafloes. The said foundation was properly

guided by Mr. Marino T. Calibara, Janosa Elementary School Principal and with the

support of Mr. Serafin del Rosario, District Supervisor. Pioneer teachers of the school

patiently handled 45 students in which 15% of them are 18 years of age above.

It was very difficult for the pioneer teachers who handle a class with no rooms,

blackboards, chairs and the given second hand facilities used by both elementary and

high school.
The uniform of the students came from the idea of the pioneer teacher which until

now identifies the school. Gabaldon Type Building housed the high school students.

Having only one teacher, Mrs. Luzviminda G. Francisco handled all academic subjects

and the non-academic subjects were handled by Mrs. Eliodora Sunglao (H.E). Mr.

Estanislao Domnguez (Practical Arts), and Mr. Lorenzo Chicote (P.E). The above

underlined name of teacher just volunteered services with no compensation at all. Even

Mrs. Luzviminda G. Francisco, the pioneer teacher also suffered financial constraint

because of the lack of financial aids locally.

On the first three years if JBHS establishment, a felt-need on having a direct

supervisor, a principal was obvious. After the Barrio Council and teachers’ recruitment

of students, teachers were added in the persons of Miss Emma Erasga and Mrs.

Corazon N. Antazo in the year 1970 – 1971. The following year 1972 – 1973, Mr.

Herminio G. Chicote and Mrs. Ursula P. Tacsay followed. Being the first five teachers

of Janosa National High School in 1970’s the teachers offered hard on diversified roles

through internal arrangement.

Major and minor subjects were not given emphasis, what is important is teacher

to handle any subject. The first substitute teacher was Mrs. Carmelita G. Wenner who

in time of her service unexpectedly did not receive any compensation.

The books used came from the mother school, Morong Comprehensive School.

Despite with the conflict in schedules, we still managed to participate in demonstration

teaching in different schools like Sto. Nino, Malaya, Bagombong, Sampaloc and Morong

Comprehensive schools, with no swords except our guts and academic backgrounds.

It’s really hard to be a teacher with no immediate superior to be consulted.

In the year 1973 – 1974, another two teacher were added, Miss Dolores Sunga

and Miss Eugenia C. Ceñir. In this year, 1st Commencement Exercises was held with

only 45 graduates having Miss Generosa Masikip, acting principal of Morong

Comprehensive School who replaced the deceased Mr. Eugenio Pascual as our

distinguished guest to with the barrio officials.

The Department heads of Morong Comprehensive School sometimes observed

classes too. Mr. Marino T. Calibara, the volunteer school head was replaced by: Mrs.

Rosario D. Villaflores 1974 – 1976, Mr. Leonardo Reyes 1976 – 1984, Mr. Valentine C.

Reves 1984 – 1989, Mrs. Maria A. Barrameda – 1989. The employment of Mrs.

Carmelita and Mrs. Luisa M. Bueza in the year 1974 marked the growth of school

population as well as the faculty members.

Reflecting about the salary status during the time of Mr. Leonardo Reyes, 70%

came from the National Fund and 30% came from the local fund. On Mr. Reves time

entered Mrs. Maria A. Barrameda, the designated full-pledge principal to Janosa

Barangay High School. The salary of the teachers was nationalized as started by Mr.

Reves.

Under Mrs. Maria A. Barrameda’s administration, great changes occur. On

DECS objective to have a quality education for Philippines Educational System, all

teachers have attended SEDP training on different subject areas. The students of

Janosa were exposed to different kinds of contest held in the school, municipal, division,

regional and national competitions and have received many awards and recognitions.
Teachers grow professionally by attending a lot of conferences, in-service trainings, and

seminar workshops done in school and in other places of the region.

The school had its own lot with a area of 2,070 square meters on the start and

presently acquiring 7,477 square meters. Faculty members increased to 25 teachers.

We have a security guard, one (1) caretaker, and one (1) secretary. The building which

boom were: Saguisag Building with four (4) classrooms, SEDP building with four (4)

standard classroom and one (1) laboratory room with comfort rooms, principal’s office

and library with comfort room and T.H.E. building which are equipped with furnitures

and comfort rooms. All the building were inaugurated except the Tañada Building which

is not yet complete and still requires a lot of money. In the near future this will be

completed by our energetic, benevolent and most industrious principal the the help of

the teachers, PTA, Barangay Officials, concern citizens, and civic-minded people and

soon our dream will come to reality. In 1990, the Bagong Lipunan Building was

completed followed by the DLRC building in 1993 both within the administration of Mrs.

Maria A. Barrameda. Another buildings were built within the latter’s supervision and

these are the BOD 1 & BOD 2 in 1995. The following year, Emily Plegaria, Ronnie

Aparentado, Maricel Añis, Vivencio Doblada & Perlita Chicote were hired and the BOD

3 was constructed. In 1997 Ambrocio Año was hired and the BOD 4 was constructed.

From 1998 – 2001 Mrs. Lorena Dominguez, Glenn Balume, Floriza R. Tamsi, Lorela G.

Francisco, Cristina A. Santos, Shiela Discutido, & Marites Ceñidoza was hired and the

first Ynares Type building was constructed (6-Classroom Two-Storey Building). It is

very clear that majority of buildings were constructed under the administration of Mrs.

Maria Ansay Barrameda. From 2002-2003, additional teachers were hired in the person
of Josephine R. Belison, Arlene C. Doblada & Bernadette Belison. It was the year 2005

that another Ynares Type building (6-Classroom Two Storey) were built. In 2006,

Multipurpose Covered Court under the administration of Congressman Jack Duavit

were constructed and in 2007 Sound system were installed. From 2002-2006, it was Mr.

Vidal F. Mendoza, Mr. Leoncio Gervacio, Luisa M. Bueza & Mrs. Adelaida Razalan’s

era. August 1, 2008, when Vivencio M. Doblada Jr. were appointed as Master Teacher I

from the original item of Mrs. Luisa M. Bueza. 2008 marks the coming of another

teacher in the person of Mark Lester Alfon and a new principal Mrs. Ludina S. Cequeña

August 8. Mr. Jonathan P. Esquierdo was the administrator since January 8, 2009. In

2009, Mr. Ricardo Lizardo was assigned and the construction of Ynares Type Building 3

(One-Storey three rooms) both within the administration of Mr. Jonathan P. Esquierdo.

The death of Ms. Bernadette SA. Belison marks the entrance of Emmalyn Belison, a

sister to her, who took her responsibility. December, 2009 Mr. Ambrocio A. Año were

assigned as School Planning Officer by Jonathan P. Esquierdo. An annual Pre-

Planning were set every second week of the month. New set of teachers were hired

namely Ms. Suzette S. Plegaria and Ms. Marital V. Cequeña last February, 2013. May

15, 2013, another set of new teachers as well as transferred teachers with the status of

national items were hired. They are Mr. Philip N. Antazo, Mr. Elmer B. Villadiego, Mrs.

Charlot B. Añis, Ms. Rona Mae A. Dominguez, Mrs. Rachelle P. Del Carmen, Mrs.

Maria Jessa R. Tirados and Mr. Joel F. San Agustin. Two provincial items were granted

to Mrs. Shiela Mae G. Teodoro and Mrs. Gypsy Joyce C. Clarete in June 2013.

September 17, 2013 was the turn-over ceremony of the out- going principal Mr.

Jonathan P. Esquierdo and the incoming principal Mrs. Amihan R. Fenis. It was
February 18, 2014 when Mrs. Maricel C. Tajon transferred from Manuel I. Santos

MNHS to Janosa National High School and May, 2014 when the item of Mrs. Shiela

Mae G. Teodoro was transferred to National. March 1, 2014 marked as the first ever in

the history of JNHS, search for ”Queen of Hearts” 2014 under the supervision of the

principal Mrs. Amihan R. Fenis in cooperation of the faculty members, PTA officers and

community. Mrs. Arlene C. Doblada crowned as the Queen of Hearts followed by the

runner-ups; Ms. Rona Mae Domignuez, Suzette Plegaria and Shiela Mae Teodoro. The

rests were given special awards. Sound system and other equipment for the

improvement of the AVR were materialized because of the proceeds of the search. It

was a momentous event when Cong. Joey R. Duavit celebrated his birthday last March

18, 2014 at the JNHS gymnasium, together with him were the two congressmen

namely: Hon. Gilberto “Bibit” Duavit and Cong. Jack Duavit. Medical Mission and other

activities were conducted all throughout the day. People of different Barangays

participated in the said event. Hon. Gilberto “Bibit” Duavit showed his enormous heart

when he pledge for 25 units of computers, 2 units of air condition and the improvement

of a portion of the AVR turned to Computer Laboratory. Also in this year, Science

Curriculum section has been created based on the 50% result of the examination given

by the Division Office and the remaining 50% of their general average. School

improvement through a well-organized leadership of the Principal Mrs. Amihan R. Fenis

is still on going. April 29,2014 was a turn over ceremony of the out going principal Mrs.

Amihan R. Penis and the incoming principal Mrs. Mercedita L. Cu. During her

administration there were five newly appointed teacher. They are Mrs. Rowena

Payumo, Ms. Marie Judith Aragon,Mrs. Jhoanna Marie C. Nido and Mr. Errol Discutido.
After a month, there were a transferred teachers with the status of national items. It was

July 1, 2015. Mr. Generoso A. Cerda transferref from Rizal High School to Janosa

National High School . Mrs. Dana Jane Aprecio transferred teacher from Carlos Botong

V. Francisco National High School. Mrs. Rose Ann Bolante from Pag-asa National High

School and Mr. Jewis A. Bolante from Muzon National High School. Mr. Rodelio D.

Villagracia is now the principal of Janosa National High School together with the newly

appointed Head Teacher III, Mr. Ricardo Lizardo, and the newly appointed teachers

namely:

1. Mrs. Ma. Concepcion F. Antinero

II. ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Project brb4
The bawat bata sa barangay bumabasa (BRB4) program is still running despite

the pandemic. The division of rizal was the projects backer, and Filipino teachers

( Jewis Bolante and Judith Aragon) served as the project coordinators. Students that

struggle with reading were chosen for this experiment. To help the students, learn to

read, the coordinators conducted this study by testing the students reading skills. They

also created instructional materials and organize peer tutorial teaching seasons about

reading. This project was successful in implanting in learners minds the idea that

education a be successfully attained if reading skills are ingrained in their minds. Each

learner could struggle struggle to understand concepts without reading.

Mathematics ( Project Math Tuto)

A pandemic preparedness project for students in their math class. The teachers

give the pupils various lessons and techniques to assist them with their tasks and

activities.

Proponent: All math teachers on Janosa National High School

Respondent: All willing students who want to learn their lesson in mathematics

Method: The math department and teacher will visit various barangays to impart

arithmetic lessons. Teachers will be separated according to the classes they are

responsible for. Every instructor has a distinct approach when teaching their students.

The researchers have interviewed three proponents from each projects such as,

Mrs. Suzette P. Alfon with the Project REALISE.

Mrs. Alfon(2022) stated that “ Project REALISE is a form of quiz bee competition,

that is participated by all G7-G11 students that are willing to cooperate and not by their
ranks”. She also stated that all science teachers from Junior- Senior high are the

proponents of this said project. They conducted this project by using a quizbee and

questionnaires as a method.

III. CAPABILITIES

Interventions aiming at reducing adolescent drinking and abuse should be

conducted in schools. A variety of school-based interventions, the most of which are

geared toward middle-school adolescents, have been created to stop or delay the

initiation of alcohol use. While some of these therapies also address social and/or

environmental risk factors, the majority of these interventions aim to reduce alcohol

consumption risk factors at the individual level. Not every intervention that has been

created and put into practice has been proven to be successful. In-depth analyses have

shown that for interventions to be most successful, they should be theory-driven,

address social norms surrounding alcohol use, develop students' social and personal

skills to help them resist peer pressure to consume alcohol, use interactive teaching

methods, utilize peer leaders, and incorporate other aspects of the population into the

program, be conducted across a number of sessions and years, offer facilitators training

and support, and be developmentally and culturally appropriate. To create solutions for

senior high school pupils, more study is required.

RATIONALE
I. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Alcohol use constitutes one of the most serious public health issues for young

people in the United States. (SAMHSA, 2010). In fact, according to the National Youth

Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) released in early June, alcohol remains the substance

with the highest rate of use among high school students at 72.5%. Tragic health, social,

and economic problems result from the use of alcohol by youth. Underage drinking is a

causal factor in a host of serious problems, including homicide, suicide, traumatic injury,

drowning, burns, violent and propelty crime, high risk sex, fetal alcohol syndrome,

alcohol poisoning, and need for treatment for alcohol abuse and dependence.

Approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage

drinking each year. Wisconsin ranks 26th highest among the 50 states for the cost per

youth of underage drinking. Underage drinking cost the citizens of Wisconsin $1.3 billion

in 2007 (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, 2010). Schools constitute

the primary public institutions with access to youth under 20 years of age. Thus, the

most common prevention strategy for youth is education--especially school-based

prevention. Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of specific school-based

strategies, and the benefits of school-based drug prevention are thought to exceed the

costs (Bell, 2005). It is imperative that schools are on the front line fighting to educate

students of the dangers of underage alcohol use and implement programs to prevent

underage drinking.

II. PROJECT’S SIGNIFICANCE

Moderate alcohol consumption may provide some health benefits, such as:

Reducing your risk of developing and dying of heart disease. Possibly reducing your risk

of ischemic stroke (when the arteries to your brain become narrowed or blocked,

causing severely reduced blood flow) Possibly reducing your risk of diabetes.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

I. Objective of the Project

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) created the

Rapid Response to senior high Drinking Problems initiative so that senior high

administrators facing an alcohol-related crisis could get assistance from well-

established alcohol researchers and NIAAA staff.

II. Methodology

Based on a competitive grant process, NIAAA selected five teams of research

scientists with expertise in senior high drinking research. NIAAA then invited senior

high administrators to propose interventions to address a recently experienced

alcohol-related problem. Between September 2004 and September 2005, NIAAA

selected 15 sites and paired each recipient college with a scientific team. Together,

each program development/evaluation team, working closely with NIAAA scientific

staff, jointly designed, implemented, and evaluated a Rapid Response project.

III. Timeline

This project will continue as long as the young people's alcohol abuse persists

and they continue to do well in their academic pursuits and in order for senior high

school students to maintain excellent health and serve as positive role models for others

who are younger than them.

IV. Anticipated Outcome

NIAAA’s strategic plan charts our course for the next five years as we seek to

address these challenges, recognizing that flexibility will be needed to capitalize on

emerging research opportunities, and that collaboration with our school is key to

achieving our goals. Preventing alcohol misuse at all ages; improving the diagnosis of

alcohol use disorder and alcohol-induced pathology, such as fetal alcohol spectrum

disorders and organ damage; and developing new treatments for these conditions are

several of the Institute’s most salient goals. I am optimistic that NIAAA-supported

research will pave the way for future breakthroughs that will help more Filipino’s live

healthier, more productive lives.

V. How the outcome will be evaluated?

The sport we employed as a means of preventing youth from abusing alcohol or

other intoxicants yielded positive results in terms of their performances, and they now

have healthy bodies as a result of the well publicized results of our initiative with

evaluate.
