Section 1 - Lab objectives
The objective of this lab is as follows:

 Understand the installation process


 Understand how the authentication process works
 Log into ArcSight ESM
 Configure preferences
 Configure utilities
Section 2 - Install Console Software (Step 1)
Summary
The objective of Section 2 (this section) is to install the main foundational software for the console software.

If you have a previous version, you will have to install this software in a different directory as the previous
installation files.

Installation Steps
Step 1.1 – Run the installation binary as administrator
Step 1.2 – Click on Next
Step 1.3 – Click on Next
Step 1.4 – After accepting the Acceptable Use Policy, click on Next
Step 1.5 – Choose a new directory for the console installation and click on Next

Note: For the path enter the path of your version number
Step 1.6 – Choose a Program Group and click on Next

Note: For the program path enter the path of your version number
Step 1.7 – Confirm installation parameters and click on Install
Step 1.8 – Click on No, I do not want to transfer the settings (for new installation)
Step 1.9 – Click Run console in default mode
Step 1.10 – Select name for the manager and port (default is 8443) and select Next

Step 1.11 – Select direct connection if a proxy is not being used and click on Next
Step 1.12 – Leave the check box unchecked and select Next

Step 1.13 – Select Password Based Authentication


Step 1.14 – Select location of the browser executable (Note: If available, Firefox is preferred for Logger
integrated as a target in ESM:
Step 1.15 – Click on This is a single user installation
Step 1.16 - Click on Finish
Section 3 – Install the Patch

Double-click on the provided patch and follow the instructions on the screen. Typically this includes installing
the patch in the same location as the main console software in Section 2.
Section 4 – Import Certificate (Step 2)

Summary
The objective of Section 4 (this section) is to import the manager certificate into the console.

Before proceeding with this step insure that the manager certificate has been exported as a Head Certificate
and DER Encoded:
Configuration Steps

Step 2.1 - Navigate to the directory that has the binary files for the console software
Step 2.2 - Run the command “arcsight.bat keytoolgui”
Step 2.3 – One the Keytool GUI opens please select the Open KeyStore icon or click on “Ctrl + O”:
Step 2.4 – Select the console (you just installed) cacerts. This can be found in
$ARCSIGHT_HOME/jre/lib/security:

Step 2.5 – Enter the password for the cert. The default is “changeit”:
Step 2.6 – Select “Import Trusted Certificate” or click on “Ctrl + T”
Step 2.7 - Select the certificate that was provided to you from the instructor:

The system will provide an error that the certificate is not trusted. This is expected with a self signed certificate
(similar to using a browser with a self signed cert on a web server). Click on OK to acknowledge the cert:
Step 2.8 – Confirm the cert and click on OK

Step 2.9 – Click on Yes to accept the certificate as trusted


Step 2.10 – Enter an alias for the cert:

Step 2.11 – Click on OK to accept the cert

Step 2.12 – Click on Ctrl + S to save the key store.

Log into the console and navigate through the help files.
