ADVANCED ORGANIZATIONAL ANALYSIS

Assignment 1
New technologies have developed enormously since the beginning of the 21st century
We have gone from floppy disks to the cloud. From flip phone to smartphone. From CRT
televisions to flat screens. The world of work has not escaped this famous transformation
either!

In fact, the rise of all these new technologies is having a profound impact on how we do
business, how we work, how we communicate and ultimately how we allocate resources.

I - Effect on working conditions and internal communication tools

Technology in action: computers

These new technologies have therefore developed strongly in the world of work. The
first tool affected by these changes is the computer. In recent years, the personal computer
has become a very present tool in all companies. They exist in offices as well as in factories,
and in ancient industries such as agriculture. Different programs have been developed to
address different issues in the world of work. Computers have gradually replaced paper and
pencil in their workplace. You can optimize the tasks you perform. Over time, these
computers have become more sophisticated and efficient, allowing employees to work more
and more efficiently.

All departments of the company are familiar with the digitization of their functions. This
involved the digitization of documents and work equipment. For example, all contracts are
electronic and stored in the cloud. Companies are using new means of internal
communication such as private mailboxes and instant messaging services to exchange
information between individual employees. It allows videoconferencing which was not
possible 15 years ago. Computers are a technology that has become an everyday tool in the
workplace.

The development of the internet at work

The highly publicized advent of the Internet has also allowed companies to radically
transform themselves. Thanks to the Internet, everyone can stay in touch instantly. It also
facilitates content sharing and group work with collaboration tools.

The Internet is a technology that has introduced new challenges for businesses, including e-
reputation issues. Today, it is imperative for companies to control their image on the Internet.
For example, in 2020, 89% of the French population will be online daily, including 39
million people who use social networks daily ( Hootsuite survey and We Are Social). This
can also be transposed to the global population of the corporate world.

1
A company can be seriously affected if its reputation is not properly managed. As a result,
new professions such as community manager and SEO manager have emerged. These
professions allow companies to communicate on the new channels created by the Internet:
websites and social networks.

The development of new communication channels

Where traditional advertising channels such as television, radio, cinema, posters and
print media are still prevalent. The Web has quickly established itself as the real means of
communication for companies.

Remote access to company data, made possible by new technologies, will also have a
significant impact on communications.
In fact, there are many ways to share, communicate and collaborate without being in the same
office. Businesses can save a lot of time, money and energy otherwise spent on organizing
meetings. For example, virtual reality makes it possible to attend any meeting without having
all the participants in the same place.

Ads are everywhere and data recovery just got easier. Its use had to be regulated because it
was becoming too invasive for user data. Thanks to the Internet, companies now fully control
their image while disseminating their work, their projects and their teams to as many people
as possible.

II - New technologies for new skills

The impact of technology on workplace skills

New technologies have evolved, as have the skills of the workforce. For seniors,
knowing the changes between the old work organization and the transition to new
technologies was complicated. They had to adapt and learn new skills over time. All
employees are required to regularly adapt their skills to new technologies. This improves
performance and secures jobs. the new generation could indeed arrive in a modified labor
market. Today, in fact, it is difficult to imagine working without technical assistance.

The scope of the challenge is already immense: a survey conducted by the World Economic
Forum in 2019 showed that only 27% of small companies and 29% of large companies
believe they have the right talent for digital transformation. ( Daphne Leprince-Ringuet,
Contributor on March 19, 2021)

2
New digital skills training has arrived. Many software programs are designed to meet specific
needs. Solutions for accounting, human resources, IT, communications, etc. The same
solution that optimizes work efficiency and reduces processes.

Work relations impacted by new technologies

Labor relations are also affected by these new technologies. The proliferation of e-
mails , videoconferences and more generally working from home has not facilitated relations.
Inevitably, it becomes easier to disseminate information within the company. But
relationships become impersonal and are often done through email , instant messages, or
phone calls.

Therefore, it is important to combine new technologies with traditional labor market

functions. For example, organize meetings by broadcasting digital presentations. Beyond
these technological interests, it is important to maintain social ties between the teams.
Interaction is encouraged, but should not be distorted.

Performance monitoring and customer relations.

We now have the tools and technology to track all kinds of performance. This is how
managers monitor the development of the team and employees.
He can intervene more quickly to report good behavior or correct errors.
Another example: Google Analytics makes it possible to measure the performance of a
website and to improve it quickly if necessary.
New technologies have also facilitated a clear rapprochement between the company and its
customers. In fact, in any business, it is important not only to maintain quality, but also to
maintain a close relationship with the customer. Social networks are clearly the best tool to
achieve this. Facebook and Twitter make it possible to reach as many people as possible and
to energize a community of fans around a product .
Communication via social networks can also help you attract new prospects, since your
publication will be shared by Internet users.
This constant exchange has a huge impact on product development. Indeed, companies are
relying more and more on customer feedback on social networks.
This gives you the opportunity to adapt your own ideas.

III - What future for digital?

Innovation at the service of work

3
It will be interesting to see how digitalization continues to affect the labor market. If
today's professional networks and production tools are constantly being improved and
optimized, will this last forever?

New technologies have been constantly evolving for more than 20 years, and it seems
obvious that breakthrough technology enters the hands of the public every year. But will this
effect fade over time ? It is important to understand that innovation is not infinite and that one
day technology will reach its limits. However, you can always reinvent it to create new tools
and new ways of working.

We can talk for example about The Internet of Things (IoT), the concept of connecting any
device to the internet has created a giant network of connected smart objects with a vast
number of use cases. 60% of business executives, according to a Forbes survey, say the IoT
has opened up new business lines. Additionally, 70% of executives credit the IoT with
delivering increased revenue.

Moreover, the Blockchain is a technology that exists to ensure end-to-end encryption of data
in a way that records transactions, tracks assets and creates transparent data access.
According to Deloitte, 53% of executives who were surveyed said blockchain technology
was a critical priority in 2019—a 10-point increase over 2018.

Talking about smartphones and flat screen televisions still seemed “futuristic ” 20 years ago.
But that doesn't mean that feeling for technology today will be the same for the next 20 years.
Innovation is not a linear concept limited in time. This is done through experimentation and
testing by teams of researchers. The objective is to optimize daily life at home and at work,
especially since the covid 19 pandemic and the rise of teleworking, because nowadays the
home is increasingly considered as a new workplace.

Technologies at the service of well-being

Current technology is developed with the aim of optimizing work and optimizing
employee performance. If it makes it easier for them, new technologies might be more about
employee well-being than just performance.

Junior candidates are more likely to apply to companies involved in digital transformation.
He will realize real benefits and comfort at work by being trained in the new innovative tools
and services his organization is introducing. This improves loyalty, satisfaction and overall
business productivity.

Conclusion

As a result, enterprise tools and services have evolved rapidly over the past 40 years.
We went from paper to dematerialization in a very short time. This may have led to

4
destabilization, but today it is hard to imagine the labor market developing further without
technology. These techniques are well established and others will improve over time.
Therefore, it has a huge impact on all employees who need to update their skills regularly in a
highly competitive job market.
