three trials.

(Students will do the game activity)
Ok, let’s start the game.

(Facilitate the game activity)

Very good everyone!
Paper juggling is a fun way to help you
develop and maintain your eyes and hand
coordination that essential in playing chess.

Through the aforementioned activities, you

were warmed up by identifying the initial
positions by playing paper juggling. These
activity test your ability to your hands and eyes
together to perform a task requiring you to
synchronize vision, touch and movement.

D. LESSON PROPER

Now, we will be discussing the basic moves of

chess and their chess piece. (Student will answer)

Do you know the different functions of each 6

different kinds of chess pieces?

You need to remember each specific moved to

capture an opponent’s piece. This is done by
landing on the square of the opponent’s piece
and the replacing it.

Piece can also be moved to defend other pieces

in case of capturing, or to control important
squares in the game.

This is the chess board with contrasting colors

commonly white and black. Played by two
opponents. The eight vertical columns of

squares are called ‘files’. The eight horizontal

rows of squares are called ‘ranks’. A straight Yes sir!
line of squares of the same color, running from
one edge of the board to an adjacent edge, is
called a ‘diagonal’.

Understood?

Very good!

Now, we will proceed to the piece of chess and

their moves.

1. The PAWN.
The Pawns move forward, but capture
diagonally. They can never move
backwards. On its first move, the pawn
can advance two squares at a time.
Succeeding moves will be one square at a
time.
Please read.

Thank you!

They are the front lines on the chess board.

They usually move 1 square at a time except
when it still on the second row of the board.
The pawn can move 1 or 2 squares. That move
is called the ‘FIRST MOVE OPTION’ (FMO).

2. The KNIGHT The Knights moves by going two squares

in one direction, and then one more move
just like an “L” shape. Knights are the
only pieces that can move over other
pieces

Please read.

Thank you!

The Knight moves two squares away from its

original position and a square to its opposite
color and knight can jump over other pieces.

3. The BISHOP

The bishop may move as far as it wants,

but only diagonally. Each bishop starts on
one color (light or dark) and must always
stay on that color. Bishops work well
together because they cover up each
other’s weaknesses
Please read.

Thank you!

The bishop cannot jump over other pieces. It

can capture opponent along its diagonal.

4. The ROOK
The rook may move to any square as far
as it wants, but only forward, backward,
and to the sides. The rooks are particularly
powerful pieces when they are protecting
each other and working together!
Please read.

Thank you!

The rook cannot jump over other pieces. It

moves along the ranks and files of the board.

5. The QUEEN
The queen is the most powerful piece. It
moves in any one straight direction -
forward, backward, sideways, or
diagonally. As all the other pieces except
the knight, it cannot move over any
intervening piece.
Please read.

Thank you!

The queen has the combined movement of the

rook and the bishop. It is considered as the

most powerful piece.

6. The KING

The king is the most important pieces,

however it is considered one of the
weakest. The king only moves one square
in any direction - up, down, to the sides,
and diagonally. The king may never move
himself into check (where he could be
Please read. captured)

Thank you!

The king has the simplest move on the board.

It is known as the most valuable chess piece.

That’s the end of our discussion. Do you have

questions or clarifications toward the topic?

E. GENERALIZATION
Too see if you really understood the topic, I (Student will answers the questions)
