What Is Language

Language is a system of symbols used by humans to communicate as members of a social group and participants in its culture. It has five major structural components - phonemes, morphemes, lexemes, syntax, and context - that work together to create meaningful communication. A scientific study of language, called linguistics, examines language in general and specific languages as structured systems of arbitrary symbols, which were originally mother tongues, used for human communication through speech, gestures, signs or writing.
