OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the 45-minute lesson, you
should be able to do the following with 85 percent
accuracy:

● Form opinions based on facts,


● Cite sources to support claims; and
● Present ideas convincingly.
FACT
Is a statement that is based
on an actual thing that exists and
can be proven as true or false.
SOURCES
PRIMARY SOURCES
are the sources that has
first-hand information like
persons, organizations, plants
and animals, artifacts,
documents, etc.
SECONDARY SOURCES
are interpretations and
analysis based on the
primary sources such as
books, periodicals, modules,
internet, and the like.
OPINION
Is a statement that is
based on the personal view of
a person. It can be based on
his experiences and beliefs.
Opinion:

The TV shows in ABS-CBN are


more enjoyable than the shows
in GMA.

is an argumentative
statement that is used to
argue about a certain thing
or topic.

is an argumentative
statement that is used to
contradict the claims per se.

claims
Claim of fact
Is a statement that
declares that a certain
condition has existed, exist,
or will exist.
Claim of fact:

The primitive people

Is a statement that argues
about something that is good
or bad, right or wrong, and
that one thing is better that
another thing (comparison).
Claim of value:

Claim of policy
A claim of policy argues
that certain conditions should
exist, or that something
should or should not be done,
in order to solve a problem.
Claim of policy:

The death penalty should be


abolished because it does nothing
to prevent murder.
ACTIVITY
The class will be divided into six (6) groups
with five (5) members. Each group will perform
an act where they need to think of a current issue
in the Philippines and show the importance of
discerning facts from opinions and claims within
ten (10) minutes.
