“Value “or you can watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfWikxmtscU to
understand more about the topic.
Then answer the following questions that follow. Use the space provided below. Explain
your answers in not less than five sentences.

1. How do you define ethics?

 Ethics or moral philosophy is a branch of philosophy that "involves systematizing,
defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong behavior". It involves
obligations that we are expected to fulfill, prohibitions that we are required to
respect, or ideals that we are encouraged to meet. Ethics for us to study is about
determining the grounds for the values with particular and special significance to
human life. Ethics, for example, refers to those standards that impose the
reasonable obligations to refrain from rape, stealing, murder, assault, slander, and
fraud. Ethical standards also include those that enjoin virtues of honesty,
compassion, and loyalty.

2. Differentiate the terms “moral” and “ethics”.

 The term “morals” may be used to refer to specific beliefs or attitudes that people
have or to describe acts that people perform. Thus, it is sometimes said that an
individual’s personal conduct is referred to as his morals, and if he falls short of
behaving properly, this can be described as immoral. The term “ethics” can be
spoken of as the discipline of studying and understanding ideal human behavior
and ideal ways of thinking. Thus, ethics is acknowledged as an intellectual
discipline belonging to philosophy. Ethics is sometimes what we called moral
Philosophy.
3. Philosophy is commonly thought of today as a particular discipline in a college
curriculum, the word “philosophy” is rooted in the Greek words that translate to “love of
wisdom”. One of the differences today between parents and their children is their view on
the nature of truth. Most moms and dads think truth is something you discover. Many kids’
answers to ethical questions come with the premise that truth is something you create
and this view is known as relativism. Moral relativism has infected most movies, music,
television shows, and magazines. It’s the “that may not be right for you, but it’s right for
me” philosophy. So how do you combat this?
 This is very common nowadays, but I think the best thing to do is to be more
open with your family. It is very important to have a conversation about what you
know about right and wrong. Asking some questions to add your knowledge of
something is good. Have discussions about things that you disagree with and
listen to each other's opinions and thoughts. Therefore, I think communication is
always the key.

4. How do you decide what is moral and what is not?

 Morality is a principle on which one’s judgments of right and wrong are based. It
is influenced by society, culture, and religion, is not related to professional work,
and varies according to different cultures and religions. A person is moral if they
follow the moral rules. A person is immoral if that person breaks the moral rules.
A person is amoral if that person does not know about or care about the moral
rules.

5. Is it moral to pay your taxes even if you don’t agree with how the government spends
it? Why or why not?
 We pay taxes to keep our federal, state, and local governments running smoothly
and provide essential services. Even if we disagree with how the government
spends our taxes, I believe it is moral and ethical to pay them. I was not forced to
do so; I simply know what is wrong and right behavior. It is our responsibility as
citizens of this nation to pay taxes. Therefore, I conclude that paying taxes is
more of an ethical behavior because we are expected to fulfill these obligations.
