Temperature Conversion

The document discusses temperature conversion formulas between Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin scales. It provides the formulas to convert between each pair of scales, along with examples of conversions. Some key conversions covered include Celsius to Fahrenheit, which adds 32 to the Celsius amount multiplied by 9/5; and Kelvin to Celsius, which subtracts 273.15 from the Kelvin amount. The document ends with exercises to convert temperatures between the different scales using the provided formulas.

TEMPERATURE

TEMPERATURE
Temperature is a measure of the
average kinetic energy of the
particles in an object. When
temperature increases, the motion of
these particles also increases.
Formula

▶Celsius to Fahrenheit
°F= (°C × 9/5) + 32
Example: 0°C to °F
(0°C × 9/5) + 32 = 32°F

▶Fahrenheit to Celsius
°C= (°F - 32) × 5/9
Example: 212 °F to °C
(212°F - 32) × 5/9 =100 °C
▶Celsius to Kelvin
K=°C + 273.15
Example: 10 °C to K
= 10 + 273.15
= 283.15 K

▶Kelvin to Celsius
° C = K − 273.15
Example: 390 K to °C
= (390 – 273.15) = 116.85 oC
▶Kelvin to Fahrenheit
Formula: ° F = 9/5(K – 273.15) + 32 or
° F = 1.8(K – 273.15) + 32

Example: 293 K to ° F
° F = 9/5 (293 - 273) + 32
° F = 9/5(19.85) + 32
° F = 35.73 + 32
° F = 67.73
▶Fahrenheit to Kelvin
Formula: K = 5/9(F - 32) + 273.15
Example: 50 ° F to K
K= 5/9 (° F-32) +273.15
= 5/9 (50-32) +273.15
= 5/9 (18) +273.15
= 10 +273.15
= 283.15
Exercises:

1. 41 °F to °C
2. 20 °C to °F
3. 98 °C to K
Answer:
1. 41 °F to °C
°C= (°F -32) × 5/9
°C= (41 -32) × 5/9
°C= 5

2. 20 °C to °F
°F= (°C × 9/5) + 32
°F= (20 × 9/5) + 32
°F= 68

3. 98 °C to K
K= °C+ 273.15
K= 98+ 273.15
K= 371.15
