The document discusses four issues in society that do not receive enough attention: disputes over the West Philippine Sea, declining rice prices hurting farmers, rapid population growth, and environmental abuse. While the government has taken some steps, more action is still needed to adequately address these problems.

A blind eye to society

Good afternoon my fellow classmates, my beautiful teacher, I am here to deliver a
speech about our society's problems and how we’ve put a blind eye to it, or on why it doesn't get
the attention it deserves.

The first issue that I will be telling you is our west philippine sea, although it had
gained a lot of attention during its first week but after a week or so, it had gone silent, though it's
occasionally brought up in drunken discussions, it has never gotten any real action from the
government as well as the mysterious silence of those that protest against the government’s
passiveness, like the group of fisherman that had their boat rammed by bigger chinese boats.

The second issue is the declining price of our local palays. This problem propels our
farmers to the miserable hole of poverty, which then drags our whole country into poverty
because it will cause a shortage of the whole country’s rice supply and in turn our country will
comply to exported rice which costs more than our country's self-produced rice, and because of
that we enter a loan which will greatly affect our country’s economic standing.

The third issue is the dramatic increase of our population. Although this issue can be
seen in every corner, it lacks the attention it deserves and needs. There are a lot of factors to take
into consideration when talking about this issue, like; Early pregnancy and lack of family
planning. Although he government has done things to control our population, like proposal of
lowering the sex education to grade 6 and the giving of condoms to teenagers. Although the
government’s actions has also received a lot of backlash since some people think this only
convinces people to be more active upon sexual activity at a very young age.

The fourth and last issue is the environmental abuse on our country. I believe we are
all informed or at least has an idea of the some or few of the activities that abuse our
environment, like kaingin, illegal mining, and dynamite fishing. Although the government has
done an action towards this issue, there are still a lot of cases about these illegal issues that are
reported everyday.

Now that I have stated the four of the biggest issues in our country, I hope that all of
us here, will learn from these problems and take action, whether it be global, or simple in our
little ways.
