Basic Calculus (Limits DLP)

1. The document outlines a lesson plan on limits of functions for 11th grade students in Statistics and Probability class. 2. Students will work in groups to evaluate limits using tables of values and graphs, then discuss their work. 3. The lesson will explain how to illustrate and evaluate limits of functions, and students will practice finding a limit.

LESSON PLAN IN STATISTICS & PROBABILITY 11

December 7, 2017

Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of the basic concepts of

limit and continuity of a function.
Performance The learners shall be able to formulate and solve accurately real-life
Standards problems involving continuity of functions.
CODE STEM_BC11LC – IIIa – 1
Learning The learners…
Competency 1. illustrate the limit of a function using a table of values and
the graph of the function.

I. LESSON OBJECTIVES
Along the 60-minute session, the students are expected to:
1. illustrate the limit of a function using a table of values and the graph of the function;
2. identify the steps in evaluating the limit of a function.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Limit of a Function
Reference: The Limit of a Function: Theorems and Examples.
Basic Calculus Teaching Guide (pp. 2-16)
Instructional Materials: Visual aids, Activity Sheets, and Chalk

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance and Classroom Management
4. Drill (5 minutes)
Introduce to the students that limits are the backbone of calculus, and calculus is
called the Mathematics of Change. The study of limits is necessary in studying change in
great detail. The evaluation of a particular limit is what underlies the formulation of the
derivative and the integral of a function. Tell the students to imagine that they are going to
watch a basketball game, and relate it to what limits of a function is.

B. Lesson Procedure
1. Activity – Group Activity (20 minutes)
a. The class will be divided into five (5) groups.
b. Each group will be given their assigned tasks.
c. They will investigate the limit of the function and graph the function.
d. They will write their answers in the Activity Sheet given.
e. They will choose a representative from their group to report their output.
2. Analysis and Discussion (10 minutes)
a. How did you find the activity?
b. How did you evaluate the limit of the function?
c. Did you follow the example given in the Activity Sheet?

3. Abstraction (10 minutes)

a. How can you illustrate the limit of a function?
b. What are the steps in evaluating the limit of a function?

4. Application (5 minutes)
Each group (same grouping with the previous activity) will construct a table of values
to illustrate the limit below. The group who will finish first with the correct answer will
be given additional points.

IV. EVALUATION
The students will be evaluated based on the group activity.

V. ASSIGNMENT
(1/2 crosswise) What are the Limit Theorems? Illustrate each theorem.
