Roughly determine the number of the base stations and the positions according to the above tips
The previous figure and the next two figures are illustrative purpose only to show how to use the Cell-Coverage Region Survey Tool . The positions of the base stations in the figures may not be the best positions.
172
DECT Installation
1) First, look around the area which a customer wants Base Station to cover. In doing so, should take these things into consideration that are construction materials used in walls, metallic objects, and expected high-traffic area, etc. If a building blueprint is available, it is very helpful. 2) Determine the number of Base Stations that are needed to cover the area temporarily. You should bear in mind about the general broadcast range of Base Station(GDC-330B). 3) Check the other DECT system power-off near the building to install during these steps. 4) After putting the same PARK ID in GDC-345TB and GDC-345TH, place the GDC-345TB at the tentative point. Mounting GDC-345TB as high as it can do. It is recommended to mount the GDC345TB at higher than 2 meters. 5) Check the RSSI level in the GDC-345TH walking around the area. Decide the cell-coverage range temporarily by the pre-determined RSSI level. 6) Repeat the surveying at the next tentative point in the same way as above step 3. 7) In doing so, it is recommended that the cell-coverage be a little bit overlapped each other. 8) Adjust test positions, if marked positions on the drawing need to be adjusted. 9) Check shadow area on plan drawing. 10) Adjusting the Cell-Coverage Regions. 11) Consider traffic 5 calls per cell add to plan. 12) After completing the decision of supposed Base Station position, install the actual Base Station(GDC-330B). And finalize the Base Station position by handover and call test with actual wireless terminal(e.g. GDC-345H). 173
DECT Installation
174
DECT Installation
The following lists what you should keep in mind during the cell-coverage region survey test. For all of the temporary positions of the base stations, draw the cell-coverage region map separately. The height of mounted Base Station highly affects the performance of Base Station. So mount a FP as high as possible. It is recommended to mount Base Station at higher than 2 meters. It is good to locate the position of FP in order to secure as many line-of-sight paths as it can. A line-of-sight path means that there is no obstacles between FP and PP and the path is direct. A line-of-sight path is a good travel way for Radio Frequency signal. Remind that any DECT product should be power-down and no two GDC-345TB can work simultaneously. The RSSI is very sensitive to the environmental situation. Testing at night when the interfering factors are minimized will bring quite different results from the real office environment. By this reason, testing during daytime in the real environment is more recommended. If there is fading due to metal material, the RSSI value can be varied over wide range. Use a fully charged battery pack.

Place the base stations where to maximize direct line of sight between wireless terminals and base station antennas. Mounting base stations as high as possible will satisfy this guideline. Place the base stations where to minimize obstructions near antennas. If you mount a base station on a wall, place it higher than the average tall person and do not mount it near doors that could temporarily obstruct antennas when the door is opened. Antennas on wall-mounted base stations should be parallel to the wall. Centralize base stations within the area that you intend to cover. When rule 1 cannot be observed, place base stations so that signals begin their paths with a clear line of sight and then bend at the end of their travel to a receiving antenna. It limits the affect of signal fading. To minimize blocking in high traffic area, install the base stations required to meet the estimated traffic demand. When multiple base stations are needed in the same location, you may mount base stations as close as one meter apart (to avoid one obstruction to the other according to the rule 2). The base stations are designed to use frequencies that are not in use yet, so there is no problem of interference between base stations that are mounted near each other. In multi-story environments, it is the best to plan coverage for each floor separately. However, because RF signals can travel between floors, a single base station could support multiple floors as long as base station broadcast area, traffic requirements, and other general guidelines are kept in mind.
CAUTION 1. The appropriate position for a base station is where 1.8m above from the floor and 0.5m below from the ceiling. -. The best communication environment is when a base station and a user are in the same height. In office environment, however, it is desirable to consider office furniture to minimize reflection, diffraction and scattering of DECT wave when you set the position of a base station. The appropriate position for a base station is where 1.8 meter above from the floor and 0.5m below from the ceiling. 2. The top of iron office furniture such as a cabinet or a desk is not a good position. 3. Keep away from electronic equipment such as a copy machine, a printer or a computer. 4. The lower wall of a corridor where many people pass by, corner of a wall, and narrow indoors also should be avoided. 5. When you install a base station on the wall, it is better to be some intervals. -. DECT wave is attenuated by reflection indoors. In order to minimize attenuation, when you install a base station on the wall, give at least three-wave-length intervals. The intervals should be about 45cm because the wavelength is 15cm at DECT frequency.
176
DECT Installation
In IP LDK-300/300E Digital Key Telephone System, WTIB is a base station interface board. IP LDK-300/300E system can have up to two WTIB and WTIU. WTIB provides 4 ports and WTIU provides 4 ports.
CAUTION 1. 2. If the WTIB is installed in a power-on system, the system and/or WTIB can be damaged. Thus after system power is off, the WTIB should be plugged in/out to/from the system. If the WTIB is re-plugged into a system after extraction, the WTIB should be plugged into the original slot. Otherwise programmed data do not match the station numbers.
The WTIB can be installed in slot 1 through slot 8 of KSU, and should be installed at the same KSU in case of installing more than one WTIB. The WTIU can be mounted on a WTIB.

DECT Installation
The Base Station is connected to the WTIB by a 1.152 Mbit/s transmission unshielded cable. The following rules should be obeyed: 1. The cable for connecting WTIB with a base station should be a twisted pair unshielded cable. Shielded cable can be used if it can be interfered by others like AC power cable with high voltage. But it can shorten the cable length between WTIB and Base Station because its high capacitive component can degrade the shape of data. So we recommend to use unshielded cable. 2. The cable for connecting the WTIB with a base station shall be separately cabled. This connection shall be cabled separate to the building cabling using twisted 2-pair CAT5 unshielded cabling. 3. The following characteristics should be observed for all cables: -. DC resistance: The resistance of a conductor should not exceed 73.4 ohm per km for a temperature of 20 degree. -. Attenuation: The attenuation of any pair should not exceed 17 dB per km on condition of a temperature of 20 degree and frequency of 1 MHz. -. Characteristic impedance: Characteristic impedance should remain in the range of 100ohm _ 15% for a frequency of 1 MHz. -. Cross-talk: The total cross-talk of any pair (Far-end and Near-end cross-talk), measured over a linelength of 1800 should not exceed 40 mV.

Mounting Base Station - 1 The weight of a base station is light as approx. 460g, so it can be mounted on a masonry or dry-wall surface, wooden wall, or partition wall. The distance between mounting holes is 121mm as shown below. The base station is mounted with 1 1/2 inch or longer screws. Drill pilot holes in the two locations, insert the screws and tighten leaving about 3mm gap between the wall and screw head. Mount the base station on the screws and tighten the screws securely.

Before mounting base station permanently, you should determine locations that provide the best coverage. The wall mounting procedure of a base station is as follows: 1. Drill two 3.5mm holes in a fixed wall. To properly position the holes, you can measure the tags on the base station or mark the surface through the tag eyelets while holding the base station in place. 2. Insert anchors into the drilled holes. Then insert screws in the anchors, leaving a 3mm gap between the wall and screw head. 3. Mount the base station eyelets on the screws.

Before mounting base station permanently, you should determine a suitable location providing the best coverage. Use the last sheet of this manual for mounting template to drill pilot holes in the wall. Base stations may be mounted on wall or desktop up to 600m away from the WTIB using a twisted 2pair unshielded cable (0.5, AWG 24). They are remotely powered (DC 30 volts) by the WTIB. The number of base stations used in a system depends on the area to be covered and the traffic density. The typical in-house coverage is a 40m radius. There are three kinds of power supply unit : GDK-100 PSU3, LDK-300 PSU and LDK-300 PSU-D. A Power Supply Unit, PSU, is required in the Key Service Units. The PSU converts commercial AC power (110 - 127 / 220 - 240V AC @ 50-60 Hz) or DC power (-42 ~ -60 V DC) to DC voltages, regulates the voltages, and provides the appropriate DC voltages to the back plane for distribution to other system components. Three DC outputs are provided : 5V DC, +30V DC. LEDs in the PSU front panel indicate valid outputs as well as the presence of AC input power. GDK-100 PSU3 is installed on the most left first slot of the Mother board. LDK-300 PSU is installed on the left second slot of the Mother board. LDK-300 PSU-D is installed on the left first and second slot of the mother board up to two PSU. The specification of control wires is the AWG #10. The AWG #10 wires is not provided.

CAUTION In case of using the only one LDK-300 PSU-D, dont install the board on the other PSU slot.
Installation of the LDK-300 PSU 1. Insert the PSU along the guide rails into the most left second slot of the mother board.
30
2. Press the release lever in the direction of the arrow so that the PSU is engaged with the connector on the mother board securely.
The GDK-100 PSU3 installation is the same way as the LDK-300 PSU.
31
1. Insert the PSU along the guide rails into the left fist and second slot of the mother board.
2. Press the release lever in the direction of the arrow so that the PSU is engaged with the connector on the mother board securely.
32
4. After connecting the wire to the external UPS, turn on the power switch.
CAUTION
CAUTION 1. For earthing wire, Green-and-yellow insulation is required, and the cross-sectional area of the conductor must be more than UL 1015 AWG# 18. It is recommended that the earthing wire be shorter than 1 meter(3.28 feet). 2. Be sure to comply with applicable local regulations. 3. Proper earthing is very important to protect the IP LDK-300/300E system from the bad effects of external noise or to reduce the risk to the user of electrocution in the case of lightning strike. 34
The external backup batteries and external backup battery cable provide backup power supply to allow full use of the IP LDK-300/300E system in the event of a power failure. In case of power failure, the external backup batteries automatically maintain the power for the IP LDK-300/300E system without interruption. Be sure to comply with applicable local regulations.
1. Connect the external back battery cable to the battery connector of the PSU. The other end of cable connects the external backup battery.
35
2. Connect the backup battery cable with 2 identical batteries(12V DC X 2). 3. After connecting the external backup battery cable, turn on the battery switch.

The external batteries must provide 24 Volts DC. This is generally accomplished by connecting two 12 volt batteries in a series arrangement. Operation on batteries is controlled by the PSU. This LDK-300 PSU will provide charging current to the batteries during normal AC power operation at a maximum of about 500 mA. During battery operation, the battery operation of PSU will be stop if the AC power reapplied or the battery voltage is too low to maintain proper system operation. If a low-battery cut-off occurs and a new battery is installed, it is necessary to reset the Battery Back-Up circuit in PSU manually by momentarily pressing the switch marked as BATT. RESTART located on the upper side of PSU (in only PSU3). LDK-300 PSU will be restarted by the battery switch on. 36
The length of time that the system will operate on the batteries is dependent on several elements including, battery charging state, condition of the batteries, capacity of the batteries, and the size of the system (number of station ports). The chart below gives the approximate back-up time for several system sizes and different battery capacities in ampere-hours. Battery Capacity 20AH 40AH DKTU 24 Ports 6 hours 12 hours DKTU 72 ports 3 hours 6 hours DKTU 120 ports 1.5 Hours 3 hours
* Note Turn on the battery switch on the side of the KSU only after the installation of the IP LDK-300/300E system is finished and AC power is turned on. Make sure that the type and capacity of the 2 backup batteries are identical. The backup battery cable should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Keep the backup battery cable and the backup batteries away from heating appliances and fire. Place the backup batteries in ventilated place.
CAUTION 1. Make sure that the polarities of the backup batteries and wiring are correct. 2. Make sure that you do not short the backup batteries or cables. 3. There is a danger of explosion if backup batteries are incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer. Dispose of used batteries according to the manufacturers instructions. 4. Use the correct type of backup battery cable for the type of the PSU.
