Media convergence also enables
miniaturization of technology, which refers to
the process of reducing the size of the media
channels into smaller gadgets to make them
more handy or portable and convenient for
users. This is the reason why desktop
computers have been reduced to laptops
then to tablets. Now, mobile phones are also
being used for surfing the Internet and
chatting with friends through social media.
In the Philippines, miniaturization of
technology through mobile telephone started
in the late 1990s.

Media may also be grouped according to codes:
sound, video, text, moving images (including
animation), and still photos. These codes are now
combined into one computer software called
multimedia.
The combination of these codes into one product is
again brought about by media convergence.
Integration of these codes into one digital form began
in the 1990s.
