Week 5

This document provides a lesson plan for a Grade 10 CSS class on configuring computer systems and networks. The plan outlines objectives to setup a peer-to-peer network and assign IP addresses. Students will complete an activity to configure two computers in a workgroup by assigning IP addresses, subnet masks, and gateways. They will be evaluated through tests on networking concepts and an assignment on the relevance of network security.

The lesson will be started with a prayer followed by

the presentation of classroom rules
IV. PROCEDURES

lesson or presenting the Can someone tell me again what are the two variations of ethernet cables and their respective differences?
new lesson

Okay. Very good!

B. Motivation I will show you a video and you should watch very carefully as I will ask a few questions later

VIDEO: A short encounter of a delivery man. This is to reflect the relevance of addressing to properly deliver the request to the end
user

Questions:
What the video all about?
How can you relate the video with regard to how the internet find and send data request accurately to the requesting
computer?

C. Unlocking of difficulties Server- is the computer that is providing information or services to the other computer. T
Client- client is any computer hardware or software device that requests access to a service provided by a server.
IP Address- a unique string of characters that identifies each computer using the Internet Protocol to communicate over a network.
Workgroup- a collection of computers on a local area network (LAN) that share common resources and responsibilities.
Workgroups provide easy sharing of files, printers and other network resources.

D. ACTIVITY Directions: Rearrange the following steps to come up with the correct order of setting up a peer to peer network and linking the two
computer to a single workgroup.

ARRANGE ME (:

FIRST STEP SECOND STEP THIRD STEP FOURTH STEP FIFTH STEP SIXTH STEP

ASSIGN IP ADDRESS: 192.168.0.1 (PC1) / 192.168.0.2 (PC2)

CHECK THE COMPUTERS’ OS- THEY SHOULD HAVE COMPATIBLE OS AND ETHERNET ADAPTER
ASSIGN A WORKGROUP- CSSLOCAL
ASSIGN A COMPUTER NAME: PC1 AND PC2
ASSIGN SUBNET
ASSIGN GATEWAY- 192.168.0.1

E. ANALYSIS By closely checking the procedures of setting up a peer to peer computer network, which of the following steps do you consider is
the most important and why?

PEER TO PEER NETWORKING

F. ABSTRACTION REQUIREMENTS:
IP ADDRESS HAS TWO TYPES:

STATIC- simply an address that doesn't change. Once your device is assigned a static IP address, that number typically stays the
same until the device is decommissioned or your network architecture changes. Static IP addresses generally are used by servers or
other important equipment.

DYNAMIC- an IP that can change. I.e. it is dynamically allocated as needed. It is an IP address that an ISP lets you use
temporarily.

*In Peer to peer, we will use STATIC IP and CROSS-OVER CABLE be used

STEPS IN ASSIGNING IP ADDRESS ON COMPUTERS

IP POOL: PC1: 192.168.0.1

PC2: 192.168.0.2

SUBNET: 255.255.255.0

GATEWAY: 192.168.0.1

ASSIGNING COMPUTER NAME AND LINKING TO A WORKGROUP

NOTE: PING TO CHECK CONNECTIVITY!

G. APPLICATION The activity will be performed by group- 3 members per group

Directions: FOR 20 minutes, complete the following tasks:
 Connect a cross-over cable to computers to setup peer to peer
 Assign IP: PC 1- 192.168.0.9 PC2: 192.168.0.10
 SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
 GATEWAY: 192.168.0.0
 WORKGROUP- CSSLOCAL
RUBRICS FOR RATING:
