I. OBJECTIVES:
• Read words with short a, e, i, o, u sound in cvc pattern.
• Write the names of pictures with short a, e, i, o, u sound.
• Spell words with short vowels sounds in cvc pattern.
III. Procedure:
A. Spelling:
Let pupils spell the following words. Use them in sentences.
1..bat – I was hit by a baseball bat
2. leg – Ana felt pain in her right leg.
3. bin – John threw his trash in the bin.
4. hot – It is very hot during noontime.
5. cut – We use a knife to cut meat into small slices.
B. Review:
Conduct a review on vowels and sounds..

C. Lesson Proper:
1. Motivation:
Ask: Do you have a best friend in school? at home? Do you play with him/
her when there are no classes?
Show this picture to the class. Call a pupil to say something about
the picture.
Say: Today, we are going to read a poem about two best friends.
What do you want to know about them?
2. Presentation:
Present the poem in the class using powerpoint or write it on a chart.
My Friend

Farm Life

Every summer my family spends our vacation in my grandparent’s
farm. The life in the farm is different from the city. My dad and grandpa need
to cut a big log so mom and grandma can cook breakfast. We do not have a
gas or electric stove here, instead we use woods. While everyone is busy
preparing breakfast, I help in feeding my grandparents ten chickens and six
ducks.
4. Discussion:

Let pupils answer the following questions orally.
1. Where would the family spend their vacation every summer?
2. Why is life in the farm different from the city?
3. How did the boy help his grandparents in the farm?
4. How did he describe life in the farm? Why?

Say: The vowels are in the middle of each word. They are referred to
as medial vowels. Medial vowels can be easily identified because of
its position in the word.

III. PROCEDURE:
A. Spelling (Mid-test)
Let pupils spell again the words given as pre-test. This could be done orally.
B. Review:
Ask: What are medial vowels?
(Show pictures and let pupils give the name word with the correct medial
vowel. Post the name words on the board.)
C. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation:

Fed is a dog. He is big. He runs quickly. Fed the dog went for a
walk on a park. He jumps over a log. He loves to dig. At the park, he found
a bag full of cob. He pulls the bag at the top of the hill. Fed went home when
the sun goes down.
At home, he plays with Ben. He jumps and rolls on the floor. He saw
a balloon and licks it. It pops! Ooopppps, he needs to visit a vet now. He is
such a playful dog.
