Snowy Day Rue Fabre Le Plateau Montreal Art Winter City Scenes
Carole Spandau

Painting Analysis

The painting that we are going to analyze is the painting by Carole Spandau entitled

"Snowy Day Rue Fabre Le Plateau Montreal Art Winter City Scenes." This is a piece of art that

depicts the grandeur and tranquility of winter. This painting portrays two children, a boy in a

blue winter jacket and a girl in a red winter jacket, walking on a snowy sidewalk in the city of

Montreal. Carole Spandau's artwork demonstrates how she incorporates a variety of artistic

elements into her work. The following paragraphs will go over the elements she utilized in this

painting.

When you look at the painting, the colors are very distinct. The hues of red, blue, and

yellow, which form a triadic color pattern, stand out for me. She used various shades of red and

yellow on the girl's winter jacket, the brick walls in the building, and the sky, as well as various

shades of blue on the boy's winter jacket, the snow, and the windows in the building. Warm

tones, such as those found in the sky, convey that the day is drawing to a close and generate an

atmosphere of warmth, joy, and tenderness, whereas cooler tones imply chilliness because the

painting depicts wintertime. The harmony of these hues creates an image that may stimulate or

intrigued its viewers.

The lines she utilized throughout the artwork are really distinct. This painting contains

horizontal, vertical, diagonal, curved, and zigzag lines. Spandau employs implicit lines to guide

the viewer's gaze around the piece. She also employs contrasting lines to create her work. The

fence, columns in the buildings, and trees are vertical lines, while the stairs and balcony are

horizontal lines. The height of the buildings from the horizon to where the boy and girl are

standing are diagonal lines, which creates a perspective. The artist's precision is demonstrated by

the artwork's use of lines, which appears to be more meticulously planned.

The perspective that Spandau used is the linear perspective. She used a vanishing point

type of linear perspective. The painting shows depth and illusion. It provides a three-dimensional

feeling to its viewers, even though the painting is two-dimensional. We like how she used this

perspective because it appears as though the two children were walking from one spot to another

in the painting. It helps to create a clear story for its audience.

There are a lot of shapes that she used in this painting. Both geometric and organic shapes

are present in this artwork. She used geometric shapes for the stairs, the buildings and the

windows. On the other hand, she used organic shapes for the details of the fence, the rails for the

stairs, and the shape of the snow. These shapes complement the texture elements of this painting.

The texture that she used is very noticeable. You can tell what type of texture it is just by

looking at it, even though the textures in this artwork are implied. You can tell that the children's

winter jackets are soft and puffy, that the snow is fluffy, that the tree and bricks in the building

are solid, and that the sidewalk is slick just by looking at them. We like how the artist paints

them like that, which creates life for that painting.

This piece demonstrates how art elements can be used to create marvelous artwork. The

artist has meticulously mixed these elements to create an image that is full of life and meaning.

The vivid colors and precise portrayals of urban structures allow the observers to quickly take in

the image and be engulfed by the feeling of what Montreal's city scenery feels like. Overall, We

believe that the use of simple or basic elements, when harmonized, can result in beautiful

artwork.
