Prayer before the Rosary

QUEEN of the Holy Rosary,

you have revealed the
graces
hidden in the recitation
of the Rosary.

Inspire my heart with love

for this devotion.

As I think about the Mysteries

of Christ's Redemption
that are recalled in it,

help me to obtain the fruit

of each Mystery.

I ask this
for the greater glory of God,
for your honor,
and for the good of my soul.
Amen.
Another Prayer before
the Rosary

OMary,
pray with us,
pray for us,
as we know and feel you do.

In the Rosary,
we are privileged
to share our sentiments,
words, and actions
with you
and with Your Divine Son.

May each Rosary soften

our human pains.

May it give us a taste

of the peace of the other world.

May it be our hope

of eternal life.

Amen.

The STORY of the HOLY ROSARY

THE devotion of the Holy

treasured the Church in for
Rosary has been
many centuries.
It is a summary of Christian faith in language
and prayers inspired by the Bible. The Rosary is
one of the best prayers in common that Christian
families are invited to recite.

The following THREE appearances of the

Blessed Virgin Mary with the Rosary will show
you how much she loves that devotion.

SAINT DOMINIC

THEdevotion origin
is
of this
tradi-
tionally connected with
St. Dominic who was in
Spain in the thirteenth
century. He founded the
Order of Preachers, or
Dominicans. He went tp
France as a missionary
to convert some people.

One day the Blessed

Virgin Mary appeared to

Dominic, holding a Rosary in her hand. She told
him that the devotion of the Rosary would convert
sinners and obtain great graces from God. She
said, "This is the precious gift which I leave to
you."

Saint Dominic taught the people how to

say the Rosary. Soon, more than one hundred

thousand people were converted.

OUR LADY
OF LOURDES

1858 the Blessed

INVirgin Mary appear-
ed eighteen times to
Saint Bernadette, a
humble peasant girl, at

Lourdes in France. She

appeared in a rocky cave
in a glow of brightest
light. She wore a white
robe and a blue sash, and on each of her feet
there was a golden rose. A white Rosary with a
cross of gold hung from her right arm.
3
The beautiful Lady said the Rosary with
Bernadette. She asked her little friend to tell the
people to do penance for their sins and to pray.
One day Bernadette asked, "My Lady, would you
be so kind as to tell me who you are?"

The Lady joined her hands and, looking up

to heaven, said, "I am the Immaculate Concep-
tion."

Many miracles still take place at Lourdes

where people say the Rosary to obtain help from
the Blessed Virgin.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA

ON May 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin appeared

to three little shepherd children at Fatima,
in Portugal. Theirnames were Lucy, Jacinta and
Francisco. The beautiful Lady was dressed in
white, and she stood on a bright cloud over a
small oak tree. From her right hand hung a white
Rosary. She said to the children: "Have no fear.
I come from heaven. I want you children to

come here on the thirteenth day of each month,

until October. Then I will tell you who I am."

4
ON October 13, 1917, the Blessed Virgin Mary
again appeared to the children of Fatima.
She said: "I am the Lady of the Rosary. I have
come to warn the faithful to amend their lives
and ask pardon for their sins. People must not
continue to offend our Lord, already so deeply
offended. They must say the Rosary."

THE PRAYERS OF THE ROSARY

THE SIGN OF THE CROSS

N THE NAME of the Father, and of the Son,
I and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

THE APOSTLES' CREED

BELIEVE in God, the Father Almighty,
I Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus
Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was con-
ceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died

and was buried. He descended into hell; the third

day He rose again from the dead; He ascended
into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God,
the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come
to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic

Church, the communion of saints, the forgive-
ness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and
life everlasting. Amen.
The Prayers of the Holy Rosary (Contd.)

THE OUR FATHER

/^|UR Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be
Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be
done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us; and
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil. Amen.

THE HAIL MARY

FAIL Mary, full of grace! the Lord is with thee;
-*--*-
among women, and blessed
blessed art thou
is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother

of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour

of our death. Amen.

THE GLORY BE TO THE FATHER

/^LORY be to the Father, and to the Son, and
to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the begin-
ning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
