Climate Change Adaptation
and
Sustainable Development Goal 2030
refers to actions that reduce the
negative impact of climate change
while taking advantage of potential
CLIMATE CHANGE
new opportunities.
ADAPTATION
involves adjusting policies and
actions because of observed or
expected changes in climate.
Development that meets the needs of the present
without compromising the ability of future
generations to meet their own needs.

A pattern of resource use that

aims to meet human needs
while preserving the
environment so that these
needs can be met not only in
the present, but in the
indefinite future.
Response of the Philippines for SDG
 Project NOAH exemplifies the partnership between the
academe and government in providing timely weather
information for disaster preparedness.
 Climate Risk Management Framework provides risk
information to enhance adaptive capacity.
 A ban on single-use plastics is already
implemented in a number of cities
and municipalities.
 A Sustainable Consumption and
Production Action Plan is now being
formulated to provide a coherent
framework for climate action
An average increase in
temperatures near the
Earth’s surface and in the
lowest layer of the
atmosphere:

• temperatures = global climate patterns

• Changes in precipitation, sea level, etc.
Global warming leads to rising
temperatures of the oceans and
the earth’ surface causing
natural disasters:

 Flooding
 melting of polar ice caps
 rise in sea levels
The significant and lasting
Climate Change change in the statistical
distribution of weather
patterns for a long period of
time.

It is attributed to the dramatic

increase in greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions into the atmosphere,
trapping heat and creating the
greenhouse effect or global
warming.

2. Environment
The Different Environmental Problems and
Concerns

1. Air Pollution
Any alteration of the physical, chemical and biological
properties of the atmospheric air, or any discharge
thereto of any liquid, gaseous or solid substances that
will or is likely to create or to render the air resources of
the country harmful, detrimental, or injurious to public
health, safety or welfare or which will adversely affect
their utilization for domestic, commercial, industrial,
agricultural, recreational, or other legitimate purposes.
Types of Air Pollution

• Natural – forest fires, pollen, leaves, dust storm

• Unnatural – usually due to manmade activities like
burning of fossil fuels, use of CFCs, coal etc.
Sources of Air Pollution

1. Stationary
2. Mobile
3. Area
4. Natural
Any alteration of the
physical, chemical,
Water Pollution biological, or radiological
properties of a water body
resulting in the impairment
of its purity or quality
Sources of Water
Pollution:

A. Point Source Pollution

B. Non-Point Source
3. Land Pollution - deterioration of the earth’s land
surfaces, often directly or indirectly as a result of man’s
activities and their misuse of land resources.

Sources of Land
Pollution
• Solid Waste
• Chemical/Fertilizers
• Deforestation
• Land Conversion
4. Noise Pollution
an be defined as any
disturbing or unwanted noise
that interferes or harms
humans or wildlife.
Legal Bases of Environment Protection

Republic Act No. 8749

“Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999”

The Act provides for the creation of a national program of air

pollution management focusing primarily on pollution
prevention; for the promotion of mass media communication
in order to create social awareness and active participation in
air quality planning and monitoring
Republic Act No. 9275
“Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004”

This Act provides for the abatement and control of pollution from land based
sources, and lays down water quality standards and regulations.

The Clean Water Act is a milestone legislation that can deliver the much needed
support in our effort to address water concerns. this law calls for an integrated,
holistic, decentralized and participatory approach to abating, preventing and
controlling water pollution.
Presidential Decree No. 1152
“Philippine Environment Code”

This Act makes provision for the protection of the

environment of a broad sense. Its provisions are divided into
Titles, the major part of them dealing with specific aspects of
environment protection.
Republic Act No. 9003
“Ecological Solid Waste
Management Act of 2000.”

an act providing for an ecological solid waste management

program, creating the necessary institutional mechanisms and
incentives, declaring certain acts prohibited and providing
penalties, appropriating funds therefor, and for other
purposes.
Executive Order No. 579
Encouraging the Formulation and
Implementation of Green Philippines
Programs through the National Service
Training Program (NSTP)

Section 1. The National Service Training Program (NSTP) shall endeavor to build a new
quality of life that will keep the nation young and beautiful. In order to ensure its
realization, all students under NSTP, Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC), Literacy
Training Services (LTS), and Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), shall be involved in Green
Philippines Activities which include among others:
a) Taking back our forests and replenishing fallen trees with new, protected forests;
b) Beautifying our barangays and cities;
c) Building more urban parks and recreation areas;
d) Purifying our water;
e) Cleaning up industrial sites;

MODULE 4 STUDENT ACTIVITY
Individual Plant/Tree Growth Portfolio

Rationale:
In participation to the One Million Trees and Beyond (OMTB) Project of
De La Salle Philippines as a potential tool for environmental education
and awareness campaign and Laudato Si program, this Plant/Tree
Growth Portfolio exposes students to the learning by doing approach.
This is to put into action the theories and principles learned from the
Module 4 specifically the Climate Change Adaptation, Lasallian
Environmental Stewardship, Seven Laudato Si Goals and Sustainable
Environmental Protection Initiatives.
MODULE 4 STUDENT ACTIVITY

Objectives:

To know the significance of Climate Change Adaptation

To practice Lasallian Environmental Stewardship
To integrate Laudato Si principles in the student’s life
