Ms. Torres: Good afternoon. Are you ready? : Yes, ma’am. Ms. Torres: Okay so, I have here your resume which you sent us last week. First, tell me about yourself. Ms. Gipa: My name is Lianne Gemima Gipa, you can call me Lianne, and I just graduated from Batangas State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering and during my study time I learned a lot about optimizing complex systems and processes by reducing wastefulness in production. I also get to explore different departments that needs to be handled in firm, for example is to integrate workers, machines and materials to run the production. Ms. Torres: Says here that you are a IECB passer, can you tell me what is the work of work of Industrial Engineers? Ms. Gipa: An industrial engineer primarily works to improve and manage manufacturing processes for a company. We are primarily concerned with finding ways to better utilize employees, machineries, and other assets to improve the operation. We study reports, rate of production, we are also responsible in ensuring worker safety. So yeah, ultimately we work on strategies to make improvements, to better the production process and minimize waste. It can be done either by iterating the old process or designing a whole new process, if required. So, that’s the work of industrial engineers. Ms. Torres: Can I know why you applied for this position? Ms. Gipa: Uhm, I applied in this position because I am interested in being an active part of the industrial space where I can exercise the things I learned in my university and also my administration skills. Aside from that, the industry is continuously progressing and growing so there’s a lot of new opportunities that is waiting for me here and surely a lot of different things to learn in the future that will help me in my career. Ms. Torres: So, why us? Why do you want to work for this company specifically? Ms. Gipa: Mainly because I have been impressed with the amount of innovation and development of your products in such a short amount of time. The way your products structured and the level of accessibility on how to learn how to use your products have consistently impressed me. And with that, it urged me to purposefully sought to be in this company because I love challenging opportunities and companies that are obviously committed in developing unique and innovative products, and yes, that is why I want to be a part of this team where I can utilize my skills and continue to develop the innovative work you’re performing here. Ms. Torres: Alright, tell me about your strengths. Ms. Gipa: I am very proud of my communication skills, I consider that as my greatest strength. But aside from that, I am very experienced working with teams from different departments to coordinate projects and most of the time I am the one who takes charge of everything and that’s what made me to be a good leader and in managing people in general. Speaking of managing, I am also excellent at managing multiple tasks without sacrificing the allotted time frame or deadline or quality of what is needed to be done. Ms. Torres: Okay, so what about weaknesses? Ms. Gipa: Uhm, personally I think my biggest weakness is not asking questions not because I assume I already knew everything but I always get this notion that the thing I’m about to ask is “already known” or it’s “stupid” to ask, and because of that I have run into many situations either at school, or in my internship where I find myself not quite sure about something. And rather than asking a question, I end up putting myself behind and never understanding fully. To combat this, I always think of questions I have and write them down so I don’t forget them, then figure out the appropriate person to ask. That’s what I do now and I’m continuously working on it and after some time I learned that I should never feel that asking questions is a bad thing because it shows you are engaged in what you are doing and are curious to learn more. Ms. Torres: You’re a fresh grad, right? Being a fresh grad right now, where do you see yourself five years from now? Ms. Gipa: Five years from now, I envision myself to have a solid foundation and space in the industry. I want to be able to grow in a company, to develop my professional skills and upgrade professional status. Frankly, if I get hired, I don’t know where this will take me, but I feel that this company is the right place to start. Ms. Torres: Okay, last question. Why do you think we should hire you over other candidates? Ms. Gipa: I think you should hire me because I know what the role requires and I’m confident that I have the right skill set that you are looking for. And even though I do not have yet practical achievements to talk about since I am only a fresh grad, this actually gives me the liberty to explore my potential by giving the best to this organization, which I can guarantee. I am a fast learner, adaptive to any situation, committed, and can work under pressure. And on top of that, I am eager and passionate to prove something in the industry so safe to say that I am willing to put in a work that exceeds what is usually asked of me. That’s all. Ms. Torres: Alright. Thank you, Ms. Gipa. Ms. Gipa: Thank you, Ma’am.
