ELE 225 Lab 1

This lab introduces students to the Multisim electrical circuit simulation tool. The document outlines an experiment on a simple circuit with resistors and a voltage source to familiarize students with Multisim's interface and simulation modes. Students create the circuit, run DC operating point and sweep analyses to obtain voltage, current and resistance values, and use interactive simulation with a multimeter. The results demonstrate students' ability to model, simulate and evaluate circuit performance using Multisim.

I. Abstract:

This lab session aims to familiarize yourself with the MultisimTM electrical circuit
simulation tool. This program assists with circuit layout and simulation. Changing settings
and seeing the results in real-time improves circuit comprehension. This lab covers the
fundamental components used in circuit design, such as voltage sources and resistors, and
the different simulation modes, such as Interactive mode, DC Sweep, and DC Operating
Point. After completing this lab, I was able to use the MultisimTM electrical circuit
modeling tool to create simple schematics, run basic simulations, and assess circuit
performance.

II. Theoritical Background

Multisim is a schematic capture and simulation program included in the National Instruments
Circuit Design Package, a collection of EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools. It is more
user-friendly and includes several tools for circuit drawing/simulation and related tasks.
Because the first lab concentrates on these components, the software also has the ability to get
nodal voltages, branch currents, and power.

III. Experiment Procedure

1. Place the resistors in Multisim as shown in the diagram given and set the voltage source
as DC.
2. Connect the resistors with wires and choose the required simulation mode.
3. Do the analysis and move to the interactive simulation.
4. For interactive simulation, place the multimeter and collect the required data.

Question 2:

Figure 4: Graph generated by Multisim after DC Sweep

Here you can see the slope as Dy/Dx= 0.0012

So, R= 1/slope= 1/0.0012 = 833.33 ohms

V. Discussion of Results

Solution 1:

Figure 1: The circuit was successfully created on Multisim.

Figure 2: Using DC operating point analysis, the output values for all currents, powers, and
voltages were generated.

Figure 3 depicts the results of the interactive simulation. The multimeter was used.

Each resistor operates as either a voltmeter or an ammeter, depending on our preference.

Solution 2:

Figure 4 depicts the I versus V graph produced by the DC Sweep.

we can see that slope = 0.0012 ohm^-1

Therefore, R = 1/ slope = 1/ 0.0012 = 833.33 ohms

VI. Conclusion

We were able to obtain a thorough grasp of the Multisim program as a result of this

experiment. may now distinguish between the use of the three distinct simulation approaches

and sometimes using certain simulations is relevant. We were also able to investigate the

several alternatives offered by the program for power sources, resistors, and voltage sources.
