MMW God Is in Actions

1) The document discusses how Christians should imitate God in everything they do by caring for others, as God cares for the powerless and oppressed. 2) It cites passages from the Bible about God caring for orphans, widows, the homeless, and prisoners, and calls Christians to help those who cannot help themselves. 3) Christians are empowered to offer freedom and a new alternative to those trapped by circumstances, just as Jesus offered freedom and hope to the oppressed.

God Is In Actions

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Eph 5:1
Paul the apostle issues a challenge to the Church of Ephesus with this verse that is perhaps more of a challenge for you and I today. After all, many of us are simply taken up with the Omnis of God, the All powerful, all knowing, and whatever else all we can think of that makes God above and beyond our common experience In many places in the Old Testament there are enough passages about the all powerful character of God to give the phrase God fearing meaning but there are just as many passages about the caring nature of Father and His requirement for us to so live. Following on from the above verse in the Ephesians letter, Psalm 68 is one instance of where David gives rise to the examination of what God was doing in the experience of David and still, is even in our time. Davids poem is almost an holistic example of worship, starting as he does with the praise of God in His Power mode. It then goes from there to describe Father in His caring mode. The first two verses are all about the power and unconquerability of God. Then this is followed by two verses of praise of the One who rides on the clouds and then comes verses 5 and 6. Father of orphans, champion of widows, is God in his holy house. God makes homes for the homeless, leads prisoners to freedom, but leaves rebels to rot in hell. This is a description that reverberates with Isaiah 61:1 and 2, the verses that Jesus read when He went to the Synagogue in Nazareth to announce the start of His public ministry as recorded in Luke 4:18 and 19. This gives us a certain pointed focus when it comes to our own attitude to the people who are described in the verses.

Another part of our responsibility to look out for others follows on from the comment Jesus made of the poor you will always have with you. (Mark 14:7). It was the result of indignation on the part of the disciples over a bottle of expensive perfume that was poured out over His feet just before He was betrayed.
There is a commonality in these groups of people. In every instance they are the powerless and put down of community. We who have a connection to the God who makes the earth tremble are those who are empowered to offer a new alternative to those who feel trapped by their circumstances. We are to help those who cannot help themselves, be that as a result of a physical cause, a social situation or even an emotional bind. Freedom from the bondage of their life is only the best impact a follower of Christ can offer one who is a slave to their life. Ultimately this would be by living

a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Eph 5:2
