ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to determine the journey and experiences of
young parents. Case study design was utilized in the study to gain perspectives
and insights that can result in thorough comprehension of the factors, topics, and
difficulties. Purposive sampling technique was used to determine the participants
of the study comprising five (5) young parents, selected areas/barangays in the
town of Santa Maria, Laguna only. The Braun and Clarke thematic analysis
framework was used in this research. It was used because qualitative data in this
reflexive thematic analysis framework answer narrow or broad questions of a
given situations or phenomena.
The study found that living with parents and living independently, young
parent respondents regardless of their age have the same perception of
parenthood as a very important responsibility in life. With regard to the perception
of parenthood, respondents in both cases of the respondents being living with
their parents and living independently are unanimously in agreement that
parenthood is a responsibility; a lifetime obligation involving raising children to be
morally upright. As results from this study, parenting for the first time is not an
easy journey in a new chapter of a young parent’s life. Life, career, and even
personalities are affected tremendously. The experiences of being young parents
are challenging yet the fulfillment and happiness that the child brings eases the
hardships. Further research must be done to expand the data and information
gathered from this study, thus expanding the knowledge base that can be used
to educate the target population.
