Under NMEICT, MHRD
NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced
Learning) is a joint initiative of the IITs and IISc. Through this
initiative, we offer online courses and certification in various
topics.

Online course: Free for all, Certification exam: For a nominal fee.
Learn anytime, anywhere! Only requirement: Interest and
enthusiasm to learn :)

NOTE: NPTEL is part of SWAYAM project which is providing free


quality education.
NPTEL - Knowledge is FREE

• NPTEL is an acronym for National Programme


on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an
initiative by seven Indian Institutes of
Technology (IIT
Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur,
Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of
Science (IISc) for creating course contents in
engineering and science.
NPTEL - Knowledge is FREE

• NPTEL as a project originated from many


deliberations between IITs, Indian Institutes of
Management (IIMs) and Carnegie Mellon
University (CMU) during the years 1999-2003.
A proposal was jointly put forward by five IITs
(Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur and
Madras) and IISc for creating contents for 100
courses as web based supplements and 100
complete video courses, for forty hours of
duration per course.
NPTEL - Knowledge is FREE
• Web supplements were expected to cover
materials that could be delivered in
approximately forty hours. Five engineering
branches (Civil, Computer
Science, Electrical, Electronics and
Communication and Mechanical) and core
science programmes that all engineering
students are required to take in their
undergraduate engineering programme in
India were chosen initially. Contents for the
above courses were based on the model
curriculum suggested by All India Council for
Technical Education (AICTE) and the syllabi
of major affiliating Universities in India.

25% weightage for assignment score
+ 75% weightage for certification exam score

Assignment score = 25% of average of:


• Best 3 out of 4 assignments in a 4 week course
• Best 6 out of 8 assignments in an 8 week course
• Best 8 out of 12 assignments in a 12 week course

60% - 89% Elite tag

If hard copy of certificate is not
required, the course exam fees will be Rs
1000/- instead of Rs 1100/-.

But after filling the form, if the candidate


wants the hard copy sent by us, he/she
will have to fill another form and pay Rs
200/- for the same.

Scenario 1 - Let us say you have registered for 1 exam
SC/ST – YES; PH – YES; Hard copy of certificate - NO
A Exam fees 1100 x 1 = 1100
B NO to hard copy of certificate -100 x 1 = -100
C SC/ST – YES -500 (50% of 1000)
D Physically handicapped – YES -250 (50% of 500)
E Total fee waiver C + D = -750
F Total fees to be paid 1000 – 750 = 250

Scenario 2 - Let us say you have registered for 2 exams


SC/ST – YES; PH – YES; Hard copy of certificate - YES
A Exam fees 1100 x 2 = 2200
B YES to hard copy of certificate n/a
C SC/ST – YES -1100 (50% of 2200)
D Physically handicapped – YES -550 (50% of 1100)
E Total fee waiver C + D = -1650
F Total fees to be paid 2200 – 1650 = 550

Scenario 3 - Let us say you have registered for 2 exams


SC/ST – NO; PH – NO; Hard copy of certificate - YES
A Exam fees 1100 x 2 = 2200
B YES to hard copy of certificate n/a
C SC/ST – NO n/a
D Physically handicapped – NO n/a
E Total fee waiver n/a
• PWA version of the onlinecourses portal has been launched
• When you open onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in on the mobile, this version will
open

• Compatible for reading information from the portal

• Writing data - desktop to be still used - assignments, edit profile or joining

In case a candidate is absent or has not passed a
course, NPTEL will be unable to facilitate
supplementary exams.

Assignments with solutions are open and available.

Local faculty can set the question paper based on this


and conduct internally.

NPTEL will not change scores on website or issue


certificate.
